TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian is applying for a Non-Immigrant O 90-day retirement visa and is concerned about the new insurance requirement, eventually confirming that insurance is not needed for this specific visa type. The user faces issues with the online application process and payment. Community members clarify that only the Non-OA visa requires insurance and share their own experiences with the application process, noting various timelines and the absence of insurance requirements.

You're applying for the wrong visa. The OA requires insurance, not the Non O.

Depending on how long of a stay at one time u are having i do my visa on line from Australia it takes 10 minutes they send application number instantly and it takes 4 days its done ✔️ I have yearly insurance cost $620 a year with max 90 day stay at one time and it has motor bike cover in that.( must have bike liance) Southern Cross insurance

Yes Sydney is better

That is not your choice. When you enter your address, the Thai web site shows which place (Thai Canberra Embassy or Thai Consulate in Sydney) is catering for your area.

I applied to Sydney embassy got the non o visa in 10 days no insurance needed

No Thai Embassy in Sydney. It is a Consulate. Same functionality for such applications.

"...

From 19 March 2024, 10.00 hrs (UTC+7), a non-Thai national who currently resides in New South Wales, Australia, and wishes to apply for a Thai visa must apply and submit his/her application through the new online e-Visa system at thaievisa.go.th

Applicants do NOT need to submit their passport to the Consulate-General in person or by post

Applicants for a Thai e-Visa at the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney must be in Australia for the entire application process

The approved visa (e-Visa PDF file) will be sent to the applicant via email. If your application has been approved but there is no confirmation email, please check the spam or junk email folder. The e-Visa PDF file can also be downloaded directly from your online account
