Am from North America. Will enter and get 45 days (i suppose visa exemption). Will deposit 800K from abroad to thai bank, months prior. Have several questions:

1. When is the latest that I can apply for the 90 day Non-O ?

1. Once application submitted, how long does it take to complete the process.

1. Once you have received the Non-O 90 days .. when is the latest you can apply for the 1 year long stay (retirement) Non-O ?

1. Once application submitted, how long does it take to complete the process.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, an expat from North America, seeks clarity on applying for a 90-day Non-O visa in Thailand, specifically the application deadline, processing times, and transitions to a 1-year long stay Non-O visa based on retirement. Community members advise that the application timelines depend on the immigration office and recommend applying well before the expiration of the current visa to avoid complications. They also mention that certain types of Non-O visas may have specific conditions.

Why don't you get your Non-O in the US before you travel then start the extrension process during your 90 day stamp?

Canada.. went to the Consulate..the 90 days Non-0, was informed, is meant strictly for 'family' or similar type situation. Unfortunately.

I think you're mistaken. First off you wouldn't GO to any consulate ๐Ÿ™ there are only two thai consulates in Canada that issue visas anymore and that's Vancouver or Ottawa.

To get a visa from them you apply online via the eVisa website thru either

AND

they most definitely DO have a choice for a 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement

Hi Tod.. you are correct on the 2 consulates now.. as the one in Toronto, closed down.. The Toronto consulate, I did a walk-in years back, and was told only issued for family situation even though I was over 50 etc.. And then, when i actually drove to Ottawa to the consulate/embassy, hand submitted my OA appl, was also informed that the non-O 90days was more for family. And so i gave up. Is all good, will do all this within Thailand. thx

-Jomtien requires a minimum of 15 days left on your current stamp to apply for the initial 90 day Non-O,

They also require the 800K baht in the bank account for 2 months prior to you applying for the 90 day Non-O visa too (not just when you go for the year extension)

-you can apply for the year extension at the Jomtien office when you have 30 days or less left on the Non-O 90 day stamp.

-the day you apply for the year extension you leave the passport there and go back the next day to pick it up <- that's when you buy your re-entry permit too

That depends on the immigration office you use for the initial 90 day Non-O visa. Most offices require a minimum of 15 days left on your current entry stamp (or the 30 day extension from it) SOME require 21 days remaining, SO check with your office when you get here

Again, that depends on the immigration office you use. The reason you need between 15 and 21 days left on your existing stamp is the Non-O application goes under review for 2 weeks or more before you go back and get the new Non-O visa and 90 day stamp inked in. They put on your receipt when you apply what date you go back to get the "results".

You can apply right up until the last day on that 90 day stamp you get from the Non-O <- BUT that is not recommended ๐Ÿ˜• because if you're a document short you have no time left to rectify the situation and apply again. Most offices allow you to apply for an extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp, SOME are 45 days or less. There's no down side to applying early because the ADD the year extension to the expiration date of your Non-O 90 day stamp (meaning you don't lose any time

You apply, you pay the 1900baht and you get the retirement extension inked in right then (except at Jomtien (and I believe Phuket) when you come back the next day to pick your passport back up
