Hi all, a quick question about 90 day Non - Immi O visa based on being over 50. When applying for the above visa from your home country, what documents are required? Is insurance and banked money a requirement? If banked money is required does it need to be in a Thai bank account or can it be in my Australian account? Does it need to be seasoned? Thanks to all for any advice and information offered.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a 90-day Non-Immigrant O visa from your home country based on being over 50, you can show funds in your Australian bank account; however, for a 12-month extension in Thailand, you must have the funds in a Thai bank account, seasoned for at least 2 months. Insurance is not a requirement for the Non-O visa, but it is for the OA and OX visas. It's advisable to refer to the official eVisa website for the latest document requirements.

OR if you're already inside thailand you can get a 90 day Non-O visa from the immigration office where you live for 2000baht by showing the documentation, proof of funds 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only and having a minimum of 15 days left on your current stamp.

Have you considered the Non-OX which is popular with Aussie retirees?

I'm open to all suggestions. I have plenty of spare time in Australia to do some in depth research, but, I thought I'd start here as the advice in this group, for me in the last 8 years of living here, has been invaluable, accurate and up to date. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated.

You can show money in your Australian bank when applying for the 90 day Non-O visa inside Australia but to get the 12 month extension inside Thailand you will need to show funds in a Thai bank, seasoned for 2 months before you apply

thanks. That's my intention. I appreciate the reminder.

Go along to Immigration locally and ask for their latest list. It may differ slightly region to region but best to have this from the horses mouth

Thanks Russell. It's always best to get the information in person so long as the official you're speaking to knows the latest updates. I'm still in Thailand but going back to Australia this next week for a few months.

Don't waste the time talking to immigration officers inside the country about the visa process outside the country. Visas to thailand from consulates in other countries aren't sold by immigrations, so you're unlikely to get any good info
Tod *********
@Russell *******
they are talking about applying for a visa in their country before they come here, not getting a visa/extension inside the country at the immigration office 😕
Tod *********
Did you go to the eVisa online website and read the requirements for the Non-O 90 day visa based on being over 50 😕

The documents are listed on the website.

There is NO insurance required on Non-O visa (that is OA and OX).

The proof of funds you can show in your bank account in your country

There is no seasoning requirement

I was required to have 12 months insurance when I applied in December 2022 for my Non-O visa in Cannberra Australia, it may have changed since then, I don't know

thanks. When I'm back in Australia, I'll give Canberra a call. Prior to moving to Thailand I used the Thai consulate general in Melbourne. I think now I only have the option of Canberra or Sydney.

@Brad *******
always had good communication and information from Canberra embassy, they are very good 👍

I lived in Melbourne, and the last time in Tasmania

@Brad *******
Just go start the process (you can save an application in your profile and then apply once you get back there)

@Brad *******
remember in Oz you have to apply at the correct thai consulate for the area where you live.

wonder why it says ‘with state pension’? Is that a local requirement?

I'm also interested to know this. As I've just turned 50, I don't qualify for the retirement pension in Australia until I'm 67. I look forward to see what Tod has to say. Thanks for asking the question Bobby.

@Brad *******
When you eventually apply for the Pension (I’m assuming in 16 years time), if you’re living in Thailand, the 2 year Aust residency rule will apply.

thanks so much. I know I had to spend 35 years of my working life which begins at age 16 regardless that I've been working since I was 10 (daily morning and afternoon paper round) but I didn't know about the 2 year residency rule prior to application. You're correct it's 16 years away, I just want to ensure that my wife and I will have income in our older years. Very much appreciated information. 👍

Your welcome, I’m just going through the process now.

Best of luck, I hope everything goes smoothly for you and you'll be back to Thailand soon.

@Brad *******
the required documents also indicate that ฿800K is ok as well. I’ve never heard of a pension being required so I think it’s safe to assume it’s just poorly worded

even in country, applying for visas and visa extensions are confusing at best or completely irrelevant. I think that's one of the reasons the Korat office has student helpers always ready and happily willing to help. My Thai wife often needs more help than I do 😂
Brandon ************
@Brad *******
It doesn't mean anything. You just need to show money in the bank or the income

you also need to check the website of the exact embassy/ consulate you apply for your visa at. Many embassies have their detailed version of requirements.

thanks Ellie. Previously I used the consulate in Melbourne but that was many years ago and I believe now in Australia you need to apply through Sydney or Canberra. You're also correct, Sydney and Canberra have slightly different requirements.
