TLDR : Answer Summary
You can convert your Non-Immigrant O extension based on your daughter studying in Thailand to a Non-Immigrant O extension based on retirement while staying in the country. To do this, you will need to provide a letter from your daughter's school indicating she is no longer a student, and then apply for the retirement extension the same day. Required documents include your passport, a completed TM 7 form, proof of financial stability (either 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account or 65,000 THB income), a TM 30 form, photos, a hand-drawn map to your residence, and a processing fee of 1,900 THB. Be sure to check with your local immigration office for any specific requirements they might have.

You are changing the extension of stay, and it should be possible.

1. You will need a letter from your daughter's school saying she is no longer a student, and to cancel your existing extension of stay.

2. AT THE SAME DAY, you will apply for a new one year extension of stay based on retirement. You will need to meet the requirements for the extension of stay.

You may need the following documents for a one year extension of stay based on retirement:

1. The applicant’s passport and a copy of:

a. The data “picture” page.

b. The most recent visa (if applicable).

c. All entry stamps or extension of stay (if applicable) since arrival .

d. The departure card (“TM 6”) that should be stapled in the passport.

2. The extension of stay application form (“TM 7”).

3. A copy of the submitted Notification of Residence of Foreigners form ("TM 30”).

4. To meet the financial requirements of either:

- 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account seasoned for 2 months along with a letter from the bank. If renewing the one year extension of stay, the 800,000 THB must be seasoned for two months before applying and three months after the last extension of stay was granted, and for the money not to have been lower then 400,000 THB throughout the calendar year, Or;

- 65,000 THB a month in income to a Thai bank transferred from overseas, Or;

- A letter from the embassy stating the applicant receives 65,000 THB a month in income from overseas.

5. A hand drawn map to the applicant’s residence. Some immigration offices may want this map on a special paper.

There is no under consideration stamp issued for this extension of stay.

6. 2x passport sized (4cm by 6cm) photos.

7. 1,900 THB processing fee.

However, different immigration offices may have slightly different requirements; ask your local immigration office for more details.

thank you for this. For the 800k and the 65k a month is it both or one or the other? I mean for the first extension of stay?

You can chose either the seasoning method *OR* either the income method or embassy letter method, depending on your nationality.

For the 800K THB seasoned, it must be in a Thai bank for two calendar months. IF you do not have the 800K THB in a Thai bank seasoned for two months, you can use ONE of the following options:

For the income method (65K THB), it needs to be 12 months of 65K THB transfers marked overseas.

Some nationalities can get a letter from their embassy saying they make 65K THB (or more) each month. If your embassy issues that letter, you can not use the income method. I know the USA and UK does *NOT* issue these letters.

I hope that answers the question.

can it not be the "combination method" mixed income and deposit any more?

thanks very much! It does indeed. So to sum up, as there is a little catch. We have two daughters and two visas. The older daughter has my wife under her and I am under the younger daughter. So we need to switch. The school will issue a letter saying that the older is graduating and state that my wife is now under the younger daughter. So the previous extension will be canceled and replaced with the new one under the younger daughter. Mine will be cancelled as well and switched to retirement based on the above. Sorry for the confusion just to make sure I have it right and gives me enough time to prepare everything.

you do know that you can use a child until they turn 20 right? Just because she's graduating does not mean you can't use them to get your visa extension

just a thought.

You can change yours to being over 50, your wife can be trailing spouse to you

You have to meet the financial requirement, but not for the trailing spouse.

ah thank you ! That is a good idea! So I only have to put 800k max instead of 800+500... or even better have then monthly income from abroad!
