What is the newest update for tourist visa length of stay. I hear it is possible to do 9 months now with extensions. Is this true? If so how?

I may be interested in getting a Mauy Thai education visa in Phuket as well.

If anyone can help please message me, thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Currently, the general tourist visa allows for a stay of 60 days upon entry, which can be extended by an additional 30 days. However, the Special Tourist Visa (STV) might offer a longer duration, granting 90 days on entry with the possibility of two 90-day extensions. It's important to note that acquiring the STV comes with strict requirements. Additionally, for those interested in a Muay Thai education visa, it is possible to switch to this visa type within Thailand if the school can assist with the process.

You can change to a Muay Thai educational visa as long as the school you attend can arrange it for you. You cannot apply at a embassy outside of Thailand for one and use it as a basis of entering Thailand.

yeah I think if I remember correctly there were only two or three that were legally allowed to offer these by the government.

That would be the STV. The restrictions are high for that visa though. Contact your local Thai consulate for details.

I have not seen any Thai Kickboxing visas being sold above the table yet.

I did not know they moved. I like rawai area. Good to find this out when I’m searching for place to stay.

i stayed Rawai recently there were a couple open.

The old Lion muay thai by the roti shop has changed name but few people there.

The one that went where tiger used to be was open but only couple of customers but they have taken time to renovate the place and improve during covid times and looks good. I will try and remember name

I wonder why that is. I remember these used to be readily available. Thanks mate.

It hasn’t changed. You get 60 days on entry and can extend once for 30 days.

You may be referring to the Special Tourist Visa (STV) which gives you 90 days on entry and can be extended twice each time you get another 90 days.

Beware there are a lot of hoops to jump through to get this visa, and it can’t be changed to any other visa type in country.

the STV can be changed to any other type of visa inside the country, same as the tourist visa?
Michael ********
@Sean ********
no cannot be changed its a very restrictive visa, need to show proof of accomadation and insurance and also for each time you extend

@Michael *******
ah okay so STV need to leave and re-enter if you want to change the visa type later. Unlike the tourist visa where you can change it in country.

haha very true. I’m currently in Vietnam for the last two years. Was thinking of coming back to Thailand. I miss the islands and fitness scene. Everything is open here except for the many places that had to close due to losing their income during lockdowns. They may be opening borders here in Vietnam in December. This is just a rumor. Thanks for the information ✌️
