TLDR : Answer Summary
The estimated processing time for a DTV visa in Malaysia varies based on several factors. General estimates suggest it can take between 5 to 10 working days, depending on the completeness of your application and the specific consulate or location you're applying at. It's advised to double-check all provided information, as mistakes in data entry can lead to delays or rejection. Applicants are also encouraged to prepare for potential longer waiting times, up to 20 days or more, especially in Kuala Lumpur. Using the online Evisa system for initial application steps may help streamline the process.
Anonymous participant 179 on the E-Visa web portal, the first step is to upload a clear copy of your passport with the passport biometrics being the lines at the bottom of the passport. When this is uploaded the system reads it (sometimes incorrectly) eg my expiry is 2033, the system read it as 1933 ans placed 1933 into the data box
Anonymous participant 179 yes you can edit it. The thing is, many of us doing the online application were not aware of this issue and simply expected the upload to be correct. The fields are editable and from experience you must ensure the data is correct or you application can be cancelled atbghe very end as mine was and there is no recourse, no refund and no communication from applicant to embassy, only communication is from them to the applicant and the docs you then have to upload if and when requested
thank you sir I appreciate this hopefully your experience will make my one a little smoother may I ask what was the extra document they asked for so I can submit it straight away
every application is very different, you have to roll with what's asked
My advice is as follows
1. On the FIRST page when you upload your Biometric page of your passport you MUST MUST MUST check the data is correct and change it if it isn't as the web portal takes NO responsibility for mistakes, that's 100% on you
2. When uploading documents think in terms of "what could I add here that would add value and help to support the request"
One example would be a cover letter explaining why you wish to live in Thailand and how grateful you would be to have the visa approved, not requested but would possibly be appreciated and add value to your submission. They key is to add as much supporting information to one pdf as possible and compress it to fit the requirement

Why not plan on 30 days because that is is how long the stamp is good for. Book a flight with a changeable date in case get it earlier. Many people thinking they get in 5 days. Never expect fast. This is 5 year visa so so be patient because then done for 5 years

Penang and Kota Bharu say 5-7 working days, and KL says 7 days
It all hinges on how complete you are when you do the application.
It's not a race, take your time, you can log into the system, get everything uploaded, and NOT submit the visa application (leave it in your profile) then once you get to Malaysia you can upload your entry stamp, fill in the hotel address and apply <- that is about as fast as you can make it
Check your data entry <- because if you get it wrong or it scans your passport data wrong and you don't catch it you get the visa rejected 😮
upload all the documents they require, as the "request for additional documents" is what slows that process down.
Don't forget to upload your malaysia entry stamp to show you're IN Malaysia and make sure you use the correct consulated (KL, Penang or Kota Bharu) depending on where you are
