What's going on with the STV nowdays especially now that we're in October? is it dead? the long stay company no longer has it on their site

Answer summary

As of October 2022, the Special Tourist Visa (STV) program in Thailand has officially ended, with no news about its continuation from the Thai government. Applications for new STVs are no longer being accepted. Existing STV holders may face uncertainty regarding extensions, which appear to depend on individual immigration offices. Alternatives like the Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) are suggested for longer stays in Thailand, facilitating multiple entries with proper planning.

It's GONE.

We have not seen any news from the Thai government of its being continued...

Suggest you look at other Thai Visas.

Such as the METV multi-entry tourist visa. With planning it will allow you up to 9 months stay in Thailand with a couple of Land BORDER RUNS.

LAND BORDERS are Open

(Except Myanmar is CLOSED to foreigners)

You cannot apply for a new STV as the program was not renewed. No one is sure yet about getting extensions if you've already entered Thailand on an STV. It's likely to vary based on the immigration office you use.
