I am a Canadian citizen living in Thailand with a Non-Immigrant -O-visa ( multiple entries). My wife and daughter who also live in Thailand with me are Thai citizen. My question : what could be the best visa for me ? Should I renew again my Non-Immigrant O visa ? I am 68 years old, retired. Thank you for your advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian citizen residing in Thailand with a Non-Immigrant -O-visa is considering the best visa options, particularly regarding extensions or alternatives suitable for retirees. It is noted that while various visas often referred to as retirement visas exist (such as the Non-Immigrant O-A and O-X), they do not permit work in Thailand. Some advice includes applying for a one-year Extension of Stay based on marriage, requiring a specific bank balance or income verification, or continuing with a retirement-related extension depending on eligibility.

Thank you, Robert ; but retired does not mean inactive.

Retired: Adjective: having left one's job and ceased to work.
Robert *******
Agree, but the mentioned type of the visa or extension of stay is employment prohibited.

There are four different things randomly named as retirement visa, no idea which one you prefer. But on all four it is not allowed to work, after all you claim you are retired.

My visa clearly states “employment prohibited”.

Non Immigrant O multiple or Single entry based on over 50 year of age, Non Immigrant O-A visa, Non Immigrant O-X visa or Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age are all named retirement visa just for the ease of naming something. Retirement Visa does actually not exist in Thailand.

If you have the funds it is quicker and there are fewer documents to produce and checks made if you apply for a retirement extension.

The first time I applied for 1 year extension, I applied based on marriage. The next year I switched to retirement as the paperwork is much less and I easily met the monthly income figure on my pension.

Easy way is to visit Thai Immigration office and apply for 1 year Extension of Stay based on marriage. You need 400.000 Thb on a bank account in Thailand on your name or 40.000 Thb monthly income certified by your embassy. Alternative is based on retirement but than you need 800.000 Thb on bank account or 65.000 Thb monthly income or a combination of both with minumum 800.000 Thb.
