Hello looking for some information on what is the best visa to get for a retired Canadian that would like to stay in Thailand for a year plus without getting a Thai bank account until I settle in a permanent country. I will also be traveling to surrounding countries within the year. Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
A retired Canadian looking to stay in Thailand for a year without opening a Thai bank account should consider the OA visa, which allows for a one-year multiple-entry stay while only requiring proof of funds in a home bank account. Alternatively, a Non-O visa for 90 days can be extended for 12 months with an income affidavit from the Canadian embassy, confirming sufficient income without needing to transfer funds to Thailand. It's also possible to travel in and out of Thailand without a visa as long as stays do not exceed 60 days.

Is there a US embassy in CM?

If you are travelling in and out with stays no longer than 60 days, you don’t need to do anything. Just come in visa and exampt and extend

Non-O 90 day visa followed by a 12 month extension. As you are Canadian your embassy in Bangkok will issue an income affidavit so no need to transfer funds to Thailand. You just need to show the embassy you have sufficient income (equivalent to 65k baht per month)

you guys are awesome. Is this same with US passport? Go to Embassy for 12 month multiple entry extension?

I would love to have short visits to neighboring countries.

Unless something's changed since April of this year the Canadian Consulate office in Chiang Mai (superhighway) will issue an income letter assuming you meet the threshold for 1,250 baht.

1250 baht??? I think you'll find it's 65,000 baht!

Lol, the letter costs 1,250. 65k is the monthly income threshold.

For vs Of

OA visa

If you don't want to park money in a Thai bank account then the OA visa will do what you're looking for. 1 year multiple entry visa and you show your money in your home bank account.
