TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian couple considering long-term residence in Thailand is inquiring about the best and easiest visa options, specifically the Non-O and O-A visas. The main distinction between these visas regards financial requirements and health insurance obligations. Community members suggest considering visa extensions and emphasize the importance of consulting reliable sources for visa information.

please read with care. If you have any questions, ask them in public on this page. Just it is clear that the answers and advice can be checked and corrected. I'm not saying that the PM with a Canadian perspective is correct or not, but as it is unknown, we just warn you to ignore PM messages.

But add to this post link the recent requirement for Health Insurance from a specified list of Thai providers if using route 2.

Route 3 is easiest long term, but needs careful preparation placing money in Thai accounts a fair while in advance - a year in advance if using the monthly remittance variant..

Best way is with a Visa or with a Extension of Stay. The difference is money in country of residence or money in Thailand. Depending on Visa a health insurance. Depending of preferences, travel to a consulate or back home to apply for visa or prefer to stay in Thailand.
