TLDR : Answer Summary
To reach Koh Samet, first drive to Ban Phe where you can park your car in one of the ferry company car parks. From there, you can catch a ferry to the island, choosing between a slow boat or a fast boat. It's recommended to use Google Maps for the most current route, especially to avoid unexpected roadworks.

Drive to Ban Phe. Park the car in one of the ferry company car parks and get a ride back. Board the ferry (either slow boat or fast boat) and you're there! Very easy.

You can easily make your own way to the island by taking a public bus, minibus, or private taxi southeast from Bangkok to the Nuan Thip Pier in Ban Phe, just outside of Rayong. The drive takes between 3 โ€“ 4 hours, depending on how stupendous Bangkok's traffic is on that particular day.
