What is the best way to travel from Koh Phangan to Penang for a visa run?

ORIGINAL POSTERHello guys! Visa run coming up mid January and I’m currently checking flight options from Surat Thani to Penang.
Seems like quite a few routes have been canceled and looks like I cannot make it to Penang the same day from Koh Phangan (I HATE the mini bus trip of horror and rather fly, even if that means 4 flights in total).
Saw there is a direct flight from Phuket late evening, so considering that as well. Usually I flew to Bangkok and got an evening flight to Penang from there. Now last flight of the day departs 13:30.
Anyone living on Tao/Phangan/Samui:
What is your current preferred means of transport to Penang? Maybe I’m missing something?

ORIGINAL POSTERI’ve done train once and it was nice actually but still prefer shorter actual travel times. Forgot about this option though, so will keep it in mind 🙂.
