I am a dtv visa holder and plan to live in thailand for 179 days a year. What is the best way or bank in th uk to use while in thailand. I would like to use the banks out there who have a foreign transaction counter to get money using a uk card but wondered which one is the best?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A DTV visa holder planning to stay in Thailand for 179 days is exploring the best banking options available while abroad. Recommendations include using the Revolut and Wise apps for managing money efficiently. It's noted that UK-based HSBC offers debit cards that can be used at major Thai ATM networks, with varying fees and exchange rates. The easiest method of obtaining local currency may be through cash exchanges at Thai SuperRich or using e-wallet services like True Money. The conversation emphasizes the importance of confirming details with bank staff regarding card features.
HSBC UK has two world debit visa and master cards , they can be used in major thai banks ATM
The master one which link to UK multi currencies account (including Thai bth in uk account, if you have there ), without handling free when using major Thai banks ATM
The visa one also can be linked , has a better exchange rate if you don’t have bth in uk account, but need to pay 250 Thai bth handling fee with Thai ATM (whatever withdraw 100 to
*****
bth)
Cheaper way is to bring cash and exchange in Thai SuperRich
Best way but complicated is to exchange pound to bth by FX broker, then withdraw into above cards linked acoount.. no spread in exchange rate, way better than wise and revolut
Easiest way is the ewallet , like True Money …. 7-11 also accepted
Btw you might want to ask the bank as many of staff don’t have idea of above debit cards
I got mine visa in UK as well as master in HK

If you stay longer it does not mean that you are automatically subject to Thai tax, there are many other factors too
