TLDR : Answer Summary
The cost of health insurance for expats in Thailand varies widely depending on factors such as age, health status, type of coverage (inpatient or outpatient), and any pre-existing conditions. Responses indicate rates can range from around $500 to over $5,500 annually, with premiums influenced heavily by individual circumstances. Many recommend getting personalized quotes from insurance companies, and some suggest agents may approach you once you display interest. It's crucial to check the reputation of insurance companies, as experiences with specific providers vary, with some noted for denial of claims.
that’s what many people are saying I just don’t know if they will accept all my pre existing conditions

Can Chris Crampton tell us a little more about himself - age, general health conditions, any pre-existing conditions, smoker/non-smoker; any major operations. Then we can give him a clue 😂😂😂

You need health insurance for peace of mind rather than anything else age and past medical comes into affect. But it's what you can afford. The question shouldn't be how much but what company offer the best products and work out what you want from that. I use AIA not to get mix with AXA. best for me at the time.

Very expensive and if you have any preexisting conditions they will not cover so be very careful when you go to the hospital for a headache or sore foot anything document at hospital across Thailand will bite you in the ass one day !

AXA is the best 50-60K max. My sister in law works for them. Excellent service!

Many different rates and and plans —need to be more specific and include age

Look online! Ask the companies.
Not the public. I found it a waste of time and money as I must pay the first 300,000b anyway. Keep bulk funds in a bank.

For fukcs sake it depends on your age and present health condition.
You sure your well enough to travel.
Anyway. How old are you ???

No, there are so many personal variables that nobody can predict anything on basis of the given data.
Contact a number of health insurers, and compare.

Chris Crampton health insurance is a sore spot for Expats in Thailand 🇹🇭 😐. Many policies will not pay out lots of claims due to any preexisting visits to Healthcare. Quality Healthcare here in the Kingdom is inexpensive. About 50% are self insured. Lots of sad stories of claims denied 😢 a few glad stories of policies that paid off. I've been here 9 years paid as I go and saved thousands of $/€ and invested it. The savings/investments are over 2.5 million Baht now. Combined with other investments, I'm good. But your question is very complicated. Best of luck on your choices.

Chris Crampton I don't get why some people are on groups like this. Making ridiculously "jokes" even all my grandchildren would think childish and people who answer "Google it" or similar. Fortunately the majority of people are mature and helpful. Good luck with your life and happiness 👍🏻🙏🏻🇬🇧🇹🇭

It’s very expensive. The other route is using clinics & government hospitals.
Idea of a MRI or CT which most hospital’s personnel will try to sell you even though no technicians nor doctors are capable of understanding…. Is around 1-2,000 US. It’s Thailand, selling expensive and in most cases, unnecessary tests is the way of the Thais.

You can compare prices and benefits of insurance options available in Thailand on this site from
I have multiple illnesses and my doc says I’m very lucky that i got an insurance. I need it all the time as my medicine is expensive and not available in all pharmacies/hospitals. Doc said he’s seeing that thai insurances moving towards USA before obamacare. I pay around 600€/ month, go to bumrungrad. I entered as a 40yrs old. Insurance broker from my home country, insurance is nowhealth international 🙏

If you have to ask its too expensive for you!

How can anyone answer that, what is your age, any preexisting conditions, what is your budget, and what deductible are you happy with, there is no one fits all policy.
What a question to ask. After a long time searching, I went with a package which was " public hospital" and not private. Costs was 42.000, 2 years ago.
if we were all millionaires like you maybe we wouldn't. My friend had a heart attack while in Spain. It cost his insurance company £25,000 in medical fees. He would have had to pay. I'm sure the OP will appreciate your invaluable comment 👍🏻
That's what I'm saying just cover yourself from heart attack. I lost two friends to heart attack in good health. The police had to pry them off the women.
I would rather save my own money and bank it for emergencies than to pay an insurance company is what I'm getting at. I don't know if that's possible on a retirement Visa.
. Do you know what fb groups are for ???? People join to ask questions about stuff and get responses from others who have knowledge and experience. I have a suggestion for you. Why don't you just shut up and scroll on by ?

I am 65 and healthy at the moment 🤞🤞🤞🤞
What kind of cost would I be looking at ?
Sorry for jumping on the OP's post. But 2 birds and all that 👍
it's true. I'm recuperating in hospital. Heart attack. 75 old. Only remember reading my policy bill after I signed for it. In hospital got 10 grace days to think about it my ins won't cover me for those days.
Gosh, it depends on so many factors, age, medical history, what cover you want, if you want a bare bones insurance or high end. Is it related to your visa? Im sure your be contacted by insurance agents now you made this post
