I know DTV doesn't mention anything about how much you need to be earning, but what do you think is a safe amount to be earning per month to be approved?

I have a Ltd company in England where the business is making a couple thousand £ per month, but my last 3 months payslips have been fairly small. I have myself on payroll but dont pay myself big amounts unless I feel I need it, otherwise ill just keep money in the business account
Answer summary
While DTV does not specify a minimum monthly income for visa approval, many community members suggest aiming for a personal income of £1,500 to £2,000 per month. This amount is deemed safe for supporting oneself in Thailand, especially since the average cost of living is around £1,000 per month. Applicants should ensure to provide a comprehensive financial picture when applying, including bank statements, business income, and a detailed cover letter explaining their financial situation. Showing evidence of savings in excess of the required 500k THB balance can also strengthen an application.

DTV officially has no minimum monthly income - only the 500k THB balance rule. But embassies do look at income to judge if you can support yourself for 5 years.

*Safe zone that gets approved everywhere:*

£1,500 - £2,000 per month personal income from company - payslips, dividends, or director withdrawals. That's more than enough. Thai cost of living proof is ~£1k/month, so anything above that passes.

Your situation - Ltd making couple thousand £ but paying yourself small - is very common and fixable.

*Don't show small payslips alone. Show the whole picture:*

For UK Ltd owner, London embassy loves this pack:

1. 3 months personal bank statements - show 500k THB+ closing each month

2. 3 months business bank statements - show company making £2k+ per month

3. Company accounts / HMRC overview - last annual accounts from Companies House showing profit

4. Your payslips + dividend vouchers - even if small, include them + explain

5. Cover letter: "I am director of XYZ Ltd, company turnover £Xk per month, I draw £X via PAYE + dividends as needed, total income £X per month, I retain profits in company. I work remotely."

*Trick that works for UK directors:*

Instead of increasing salary (tax heavy), pay yourself a dividend before applying - e.g. £2k dividend in one month - so your personal statement shows £2k in. Then you can show dividend voucher + board minutes as proof. That one transaction makes your personal income look "safe" without changing long term payroll.

*What is risky:*

- Showing £400/month payslip and nothing else - officer thinks you can't live in Thailand

- Showing business account with £20k but personal account with £500 and no transfer between them

You could consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it includes all the info and insights you need. You should check it out. A very good companion 👌.

As a rough estimate/comparison a Non-O retirement visa requires an income of at least 65K THB per month which is is the region of £1400 - £1600 depending on exchange rates. TBH that's quite a limited income to live on so ideally you'd be looking for aprrox GBP 2K+ at least.

I had 30k down and that was accepted

I would say over 40k a year and you would be fine

Approvals are given for less income than what you detail. If your business income is inconsistent, show savings in excess of the 500k, other income streams or investments.
