How can I apply for a DTV while being in California and ensure it gets approved before moving back to Thailand?

Hello for those experienced in DTV, I just want to be sure I’m getting the process done to apply and obtain a DTV the first time I do it (and correctly). Here’s my scenario:

I’m in Thailand now and have secured an apartment here and have a scheduled move in date of November 5th. I fly back to California in a couple days where I will be for just over 2 weeks before coming back to Thailand again to move into my new place. If I understand correctly I can apply online for the DTV as soon as I get back to California and am out of Thailand.

I sold my company in California a year ago and have technically retired with those funds (I’m 45 years old) but I do have a small business I started where I review/audit construction estimates for accuracy but it’s very very part time. I do this online and think noting that on the DTV as a digital nomad might be the easiest way for DTV approval.

Based on current approval timeframes would the two weeks be enough to obtain the DTV when k get back to California before heading back to Thailand around November 3rd? I don’t want to mess anything up with coming back into Thailand while the approval process is pending but I HAVE to be back November 4th to take ownership of the apartment (and hopefully start my long term living situation in Thailand which I’m excited for!)

Thanks so much for your experienced answers and advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on applying for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) while currently in Thailand but needing to return to California briefly before moving back to Thailand permanently. They are unsure about the approval time for the DTV application and whether they can complete it in time, as they need to move into their new apartment in Thailand on November 4th. Comments from others suggest that the approval timeframe could be tight and recommend contacting the embassy or checking their website for estimated processing times.

You could try mention in the application, when you want to travel to Thailand.

Asking the Embassy could also be an option.

Or check the Embassy website, for a aproxx. processing time.

One of the earliest posts in this group was a guy who applied for the DTV in LA. It was not approved in time for his flight so he came to Thailand and entered on a Visa Exempt. The LA Consulate approved his DTV so he flew out of Thailand and back to activate the DTV.

Seems good, but the time window for approval looks very tight.
