Looking for overstay advice (1-2 days)

Hi everyone, sorry if this topic has been done to death. Here's my situation:

- I work in TH, had the proper non B visa and work permit

- Found new job

- New employer wants me to completely reset visa etc by cutting old paperwork and going to Laos

- Cut the old work permit and related visa, the documents tied to first employer, yesterday the 9th of june. Stamp in passport says 9th of june is my exit date

- Have a bus ticket ready for that evening, but realize I won't arrive at Thai-Laos land border untill morning of the 10th

- Ask officers ar Chaeng Watthana if it's an issue. They say "no, maybe you have to pay a 500 baht fine, but no problem"

- So I get on the bus, arrive at the land border on the morning of 10th

- Get told: "Overstay, pay the fine in Bangkok at airport and fly out"

- Get on first bus back

- First available flight leaves early morning of the 11th

So now the question:

I reckon this will lead to a fine of at least 1000thb right? Two days of overstay. That's okay with me.

What I am more concerned about is a potential ban. Is there any realistic chance this affects my ability to return to Thailand?

This is the first ever time I had an issue like this, hence not knowing anything.

Thanks for your help!
Answer summary
The user is seeking advice on overstaying their visa in Thailand by 1-2 days after transitioning jobs and following incorrect guidance regarding visa exit. Despite being told they may only incur a fine, they express concern about possible bans affecting future visa applications or entry into Thailand. Community responses indicate that minor overstays are usually treated leniently, often resulting in just a fine without major repercussions on future visa applications.

One or two days overstay is sanely recognised as a rounding error, not a deliberate crime, so there are no direct repercussions or black marks (there will be a note in your passport).

The fine-only punishment is capped at 20K baht penalty. So 40 days is when it probably starts getting serious.

Technically they can decide to do whatever they want to your passport at any time overstay or not, but less than a week will just earn you a sigh and a finger wave.

Being sent from the border back to the airport is an unexpected annoyance though. That sux.

Just before the 60 day visa on arrival came in . I purchased a 60 day tourist visa. Not knowing much about visa I took a week trip to Vietnam. Came back to Thailand assuming I was still covered with my 60 day visa. I was given 30 day on arrival. Didn't check passport. Leaving Thailand 35 days later I was informed that I had overstayed 5 days. Had to pay ฿2500 fine. A year later I was applying for non o retirement Visa. I asked my IO in local immigration office if this would affect it. They said no it would not affect the non o Visa application. Have visa now it never came up.

nobody here can tell you if these two days overstay will have any effect on the application to the 90-days Non-Imm-B Visa in Laos (probably not) , for the application to the work permit (probably not) and a later extension on Immigration (maybe it will just raise an eyebrow with no more other effect)

Phil Beer Thanks for your reply. I was also somewhat surprised, figured I'd be allowed to pay and exit. But they told me I have to go to an airport in Bangkok to get it done.
