Hello,

It seems that the last day to apply for covid extension is Nov 26th. My current visa ends on Nov 23rd. if I apply for extension on Novv 23, can I stay until approximately January 23rd, or only until Nov 26th? Not sure about it.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about applying for a COVID visa extension on the last day of their current visa, specifically if applying on November 23rd allows them to stay until January 23rd or only until November 26th. Responses indicate that applying on the 23rd is late but could result in a 60-day extension starting from the application date. There may be a requirement to return to the immigration office within a specified time for further processing.

Would there be any reason they don’t grant the covid extension to applicants? I am from the US, my exempt visa (extra 30 days) expires on the 9th of December and would like to switch to the covid extension before the expiration date.

If you apply for the extension on the 23rd (that’s leaving it a bit late imo) you will probably get 60 days from the 23rd. It’s not an automatic right that you’d get the extension but I’ve not heard many posts of people being rejected. Quite probably you’d be given a “under consideration” stamp requiring you to return to the same immigration office within 5-15 days. When you return they’ll stamp the remaining days. If you are it has to be the same office you used for the extension.

would applying for the extension 1 week in advance be better?

a couple of days prior. Just in case you don’t have all the necessary paperwork and have to re-visit the office.

But did they confirm that it is possible to apply until nov 26th so that people can stay until January? Or is it just that people may apply until nov 26th but they have to leave on Nov 26th (exemple they apply on Oct 26th but have to leave on Nov 26th? or if they apply on Oct 26th they can leave on Dec 25th?)?

You can apply on the 23rd and you’ll get 60 days from then. Taking you to around 20th of January

Ok thank you. Knowing that my visa ends on 23rd, and still can get the one month extension (but would rather get directly the covid extension), what do you think is my best ption and when should I preferably apply?
Stuart *********
@Wei ***
that’s depends on which office you use. Some insist on getting the regular 30 day extension first before you can apply for the covid extension, but some will let you.

I'm in Chiang mai. Ok thank you for the information. 2 last questions:

- if visa ends on 23rd but I apply on 20th, do I get the extension from 20 or 23?

- do you think or have you any information that they'll extend it after JanuarY?

No one knows if they’ll extend the date after November 26th. They done so a number of times previously-usually only advising so a day or so before. With Thailand “opening up” on November 1st it may well not happen.

usually changing from a tourist visa/extension to a covid extension they will date it from the day you apply. Each office may differ. I do not know what they do in Chiang Mai.
