TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent discussion among expats revolves around the email notifications sent by Kasikorn Bank, requesting customers to fill out self-declaration forms for tax transparency compliance under CRS regulations. Some users reported successfully completing the process at their local branches, while others raised concerns about being away from Thailand and how to submit the required documents. The conversation also touched upon the confusion regarding who received these communications and the underlying procedures for compliance.

I received the same email yesterday. I don't have an issue filling out the forms, but wondering what to put in the space where it asks for addresses/jurisdictions on the FATCA - CRS form for individual certification?

Just be prepared for such questions if you are using another bank. No reason to panic.

Well in the meantime I got some more people in other forums who posted they received this Mail from Kasikorn. I also found some information here:

I think the most reasonable anwer there was, that most elder accounts receive this mail now and those opened shortly already signed thos forms at the account opening. This would at least explain why some got the mail and some not.

I was watching that thread too because if I have to fill out that form how can I do it as I won't be back in Thailand for some months. How long do they give you to do it? Can it be done online? Will they freeze my account etc??
Peter *******
@Ling ****
of course can be done online, they've asked you to email back the completed forms

@Peter ******
thanks, I didn't know that because I haven't received this email yet. I have both a Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Account. Both were openened 10 years + ago.

@James ********
My question was why didn‘t everyone got this mail?

It doesn‘t depend where you‘re from I got messages from my fellow expats from all kind of countries who received this mail.
Gary **********
Just got it tonight had a quick look and looks to me it's mostly for U.S. citizens
Kim *********
@Gary *********
no it is not
Gary **********
@Kim ********
then why does it only state U.S citizen and not any other nationality.
Jeffrey *********
@Gary *********
The forms are for both FATCA and CRS. FATCA applies to "US persons" (which is actually a much broader category than just US citizens), but CRS applies to lots of other nationalities.
Gary **********
@Jeffrey ********
so are these a mandatory formality that as to be done?
Jeffrey *********
@Gary *********
Yes. I know nothing about CRS, but Thailand and the US signed an agreement eight years ago in which the Thais agreed to enforce FATCA. As a result, Thai banks are required to ask every person opening an account whether or not they are a "US person" for FATCA purposes. This recent email may be reaching out to folks who opened their accounts before 2016 and so never filled out those forms.

@Jeffrey ********
my kisikorn account was after 2016 but my bangkok bank account was b4 and I haven't had such email from them. I will just have to go and enquire in the bank thanks anyway Jeffrey.

go to your bank and they will help for sure

@Gary *********
well why have I as a Danish citizen been asked for a Thai TIN number from the Danish authorities and my Danish pension company? It's an international agreement signed by Thailand OECD and a lot of other countries
Gary **********
@Kim ********
it's a bit confusing as I don't get a state pension from my government in the UK .

I'm getting a private one and have not been asked for any Thai Tin nu.bers from them
Kim *********
@Gary *********
maybe you will get a request eventually...
Colin *******
I've received that email and I'm not going to respond to it I will take the forms into my local branch
Graham ******
@Colin ******
same, same. Got my email yesterday.

Done it today, walked in to my local branch and they had it done for me in 20mins, they even scanned it all to the designated email, very helpful.

@Lee **********
Hi Lee - what information did you provide in the space for "addresses/jurisdictions" on the FATCA - CRS form for individual certication?
Lee ***********
@Graham *******
Hi Graham, I put my UK address and tax code.
Graham ********
@Lee **********
........as I don't have my own residential address back in Australia I was unsure what address details to put in the form..........and so I went to my branch this morning and they were happy to put the address on my Australian driver's licence - my daughter's address........and so all done!

Cheers!

@Graham *******
glad you got sorted 👍🏻

This is just about CRS compliance by the Thai banks and financial institutions. Not really news just banks starting to comply with CRS regulations. Everyone with a Thai bank account will be required to provide the requested information.
