TLDR : Answer Summary
German passport holders can enter Thailand under the visa exemption category, allowing them a 30-day stay without a visa if entering by air. An extension for an additional 30 days is available for a fee at local Thai Immigration offices.

Yes, old rules, out of the time that people got 15 days at land borders, but the citizens of G7 countries got 30 days.

All over now with the new rules which came in play 31 Dec 2016

But remember, you only get two visa exempt entries by land each calendar year, and "unlimited" by air (as defined by the immigration officer on duty).

Unless something radically changed, it's more than the G7 countries that qualify for a visa exempt.
