TLDR : Answer Summary
As a German passport holder, you can extend your 30-day visa exemption stamp for an additional 30 days at the immigration office in Phuket. However, if your extension is denied, you will receive a 7-day 'get out of Thailand' stamp, which cannot be appealed.

Just so you know, since they started giving 30 day extensions on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp (August 29th 2014) IF you're denied the 30 day extension, they sell you the "extension denied" 7 day get outta thailand stamp and you cannot appeal that decision..

Hi. Can one get an extension on their visa exempt stamp if one's has overstayed?

Ah wish you had answered this earlier haha.. Just took my friend to poipet today and got 30 days stamp just to be safe. Was told she couldn't get an extension since she overstayed even by 2 days. Thanks for the info tho!

That's gonna depend on the immigration officer AND how long you've overstayed.

I know someone who overstayed their 30 day visa exempt entry stamp by 7 days. They went to the immigration office paid the 3500baht overstay (500 baht per day) then applied for and got a 30 day extension.

Everyone can extend once for 30 days, generally.

yes, "once" in this case means "once per entry".

Yes. You get 60 days with a tourist visa and you can extend 30 days.

If you fly back into Thailand with a new visa after your first visa expired, can you apply again for the 30days or not?
