When I take flight to Bangkok I never had to pay anything for the entry stamp. I got everytime a 30 day entry. My question was about crossing the border on land side. In case I want travel per bus to have a look more as from 10.000meter high. May some German here to give me a bit their own experience?

funny, my mate, German passport and me had to pay at phnom Penh airport 25$ each for 30 day visa on arrival. We didn't have Dollars and had to fork out 1500thb.

$25, but not a big amount. There is no visa on arrival for German citizens. And obviously it would not be issued at Phnom Penh airport.

no, i don’t think you will need a return ticket via bus. See Stuart’s answer above. You really only need your passport
