Could use some advice. I applied to us LA embassy as a freelancer, so I do not have a registered business. I attached a pdf with a cover letter to indicate I am a freelancer. But received the following back:

* Other request documents: Please upload a business registration of the company

* Other request documents: Please describe a business portfolio of the company

* Other request documents: Your recent tax return

* Other request documents: Employment contract or employment certificate from company

* Other request documents: Guarantee letter from the company implies that you work remotely

Majority of my work is with another company that is registered and I have a freelance contract with them. I could also have them easily write me a letter indicating I can work remotely. Would that be the best option moving forward? I am mostly confused about the document "Please describe a business portfolio of the company" as I thought the PDF below would suffice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A freelancer seeking a US visa faced document requests from the LA embassy, including business registration, a business portfolio, recent tax returns, employment contract, and a guarantee letter. As a freelancer without a registered business, they are unsure how to best fulfill these requests. Suggestions include obtaining a letter from the company they work with, providing their contract, and clarifying the requirements for the business portfolio, which may pertain to their client’s registration information.

Maybe they mean the business registration information for your clients. This can be found on the website for the the Secretary of State.

I'm similar to you in in terms of freelance contract. I provided the business registration of the company I work for and contract of employment, bank statements highlighting payments from the company, letter detailing I can work for them from Thailand for the 5 year duration of the DTV.

Provide a contract and a letter from your employer stating you can work remotely from Thailand along with copies of your most recent tax return
