TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a re-entry permit and an extension of a non-ED visa in Thailand, it's advisable to contact your internship employer for specific documentation needed for the extension. Generally, many interns acquire a 3-month ED visa initially and may need to apply for a new one if they wish to stay longer, as extensions are uncommon. For a re-entry permit, you can purchase this at the immigration office or at the airport before leaving Thailand.

The employer you're interning for should know the documentation you need to get an extension IF you can even get one.

Most internships I know of have their people get a 3 month ED visa and then if they need to stay longer they go get a NEW 3 month ED visa again.

I can count on one hand with fingers left over the number of people I've seen interning on ED visas who were able to get extensions :( It's just not something that is done all that much I guess.

As far as a re-entry permit, you just go to the immigration office or the airport when you fly out and buy one.
