Hi, I am currently working as an intern in CM on an ED visa, my work is not part of a thai educational institution and my internship is part of a placement scheme at my university in the UK. My visa expires saturday does anyone know how to extend this? Ive been told I cant do this the usual way at CM immigration the same way people on language courses etc do.

My work have told me to go to UK embassy in Bangkok but the UK embassy don't seem to give me any answers about what I need to do.

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user working in Thailand on an ED visa wishes to extend their visa due to their internship not being affiliated with a Thai educational institution. They have been advised to contact the UK embassy for assistance, but they are unsure about the extension process since they cannot proceed as those on language courses can. Community members suggest visiting the immigration office with proper documentation from both the university and the internship company, and clarify that the UK embassy provides limited assistance regarding visa issues.

I think you're right and im going to have to just go to immigration and find out first hand what they want. Thanks!

Melissa, Well, that pretty much makes your trip down here to the uk consulate tomorrow useless. I would take the time to lug someone from your company to the immigration office and find out what's what with your extension.

At the worst IF you can't get an extension (and seeing as it expires on the weekend) you could go monday and get a 7 day stamp to get out of thailand (for 1900baht). That would give you some time to figure out what to do visa wise

you're right :/ I think you're not gonna get that document from the UK consulate :/

Services We Cannot Provide

Statutory declaration to support your educational visa extension in Thailand

on this page it says they cannot provide a -Statutory declaration to support your educational visa extension in Thailand. Does this mean I cannot obtain the letter I was hoping for?

What type of ED visa do you have? Is is a 90 day single entry one or a year-long, multiple entry one?

You do go to the immigration office just like other people on ED visas do to get an extension BUT you use documentation from your university AND the company you're interning for to get the extension.

The UK consulate in Bangkok has nothing to do with visas or extensions of stays in thailand. Although they might be able to give you a notarized statement where you say you are enrolled in an internship here in thailand. BUT you'd need to check with the immigration office to see what exactly is required.

Unfortunately today is a holiday so they're closed and as your current stamp expires Saturday you sure didn't leave much time to sort this out.

I couldn't say
@Mel****
, it's your decision on whether they really did call immigrations or not.

Because you're running out of time, I would hate to tell you to wait another day to go to the immigration office and then find out you DO need the letter from the UK consulate.. :/

Sorry.

The problem is I cant go to immigration myself tomorrow as I would need to fly to Bangkok tomorrow at 6am. They told me they have phone them twice to check what I need and they said I need this document. Do you think I should wait another day and check for myself? Thanks

Don't take their word about it without checking to see what the immigration office says because that's who issues the extensions
Tod *********
Have them check with the immigration office or better yet have them go to the immigration office with you and see what you need (so you know they really checked).

I would have your company call the immigration office tomorrow when they open and check so you're not running around getting a notarized statement IF you don't need it.

So do I need to prepare anything to take with me to get this notarised statement? Thank you so much this is the first answer ive gotten which makes sense!

@Mel****
, Yep, that's what I thought was the reason they said to get ahold of the UK consulate here in Bangkok. Now there's not gonna be a specific form you use, it's just going to be a general notarized statement that you write saying your name, DOB, passport number, uni you're enrolled in, company you're interning at and that you are scheduled to intern until xyz date.

That should be sufficient along with a letter from the company to get an extension at the immigration office

I know, Ive been waiting on my company who very last minute told me it was up to me to organise. They've just informed me I need to get a letter from UK embassy that say I am enrolled in the internship in CM and use that as part of my application for extension at CM immigration, does this sound correct? Thanks
