Does anyone know what documents are required when applying for a re-entry permit? I have a student visa and will be leaving Thailand once and returning within 3 months.

Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a re-entry permit in Thailand with a student visa, you will need to fill out the relevant form and provide a photo. The permit typically costs 1500 baht and may take about a week to process if done on Koh Phangan, as it is sent to Samui. Alternatively, you can apply for it at Suvarnabhumi Airport, which operates 24/7.

Re entry permits require filling in the relevant form plus a photo.

On phangan they charge 1500 baht and send to samui with a 1 week turnaround.

Best bet when at Suvarnabhumi airport if you fly from there get there ...available

The counter is after international security checks

Will you be going through passport control in Samui or Bangkok?

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm flying from Samui to BKK on a separate ticket than my ticket out of Thailand. So I guess in Bangkok?

, If you are stamped out at Samui airport (when you check in all itineraries or at least the first two) you will have already left Thailand technically. When in Bangkok, you cannot get a re-entry stamp there.

If you have to check in separately, means you do check in the flight leaving Bangkok at BKK again after picking up your luggage and going to the check-in counter at Suvarnabhumi/BKK, you can get a re-entry permit at BKK.

is this true ..samui to bkk is domestic and you still have to go thu international departures I think?

, IF they let you do 'through-check-in', yes. Before Covid they let you do through-check-in with some airlines even if you have separate tickets. In that case, you through the passport control at Samui, and you go to the international concourse directly without picking up your luggage at BKK. What I'm not sure about is how much they do it under the current Covid restriction.

they check thru luggae yes, but thought had to exit domestic and go thru intenational security departures ...where the desk is for rebentry permit. Will have to try it sometime ...not done for years!!! 😘

If you go through passport control in another airport (Samui, Chiangmai, Phuket, etc), as Ellie says you are already stamped out of Thailand. In Bangkok you are a CIQ passenger and must go directly to your gate.

ahhhh if on an international flight with 2 legs ...yup maybe ...I only do samui bkk and then catch a later date flight out ...

@John *******
Exactly. But immigration queues are usually a LOT shorter outside of BKK so it’s a great option.

I asked because the reentry permit counter is not in the transit area. So you can get it at Suvarnabhumi…..unless your first flight is delayed. 😉

should be 30 minutes

I dunno if that immigration office down there on the "Island of Misfit Toyz" (aka Koh Phangan) sells them or not and you might have to go to the one on Samui to get one

This sheet can help
