Update received visa with no problem,in & out in minutes.

Savannakhet Thai immigration office today 26-09-23.

Queued for 25 minutes before they opened,after opening was in & out in 20 minutes.

Doing a family visa based on marriage to a Thai with Uk passport.

Minimal documentation needed,what we did need was original copies tho,marriage certificate,wife’s passport/ID & rental agreement,all signed by ourselves,2 passport pics & declaration form off website (they have glue at the window to stick pics to form).

Told to come back tomorrow to collect after 2pm even tho website says 2 days.

Will update tomorrow when received.

PS this was made possible by the amazing advice from Tod πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user successfully updated their family visa at the Savannakhet Thai immigration office, completing the process in around 20 minutes after waiting for 25 minutes before opening. They required original copies of several documents, including a marriage certificate, the wife's passport/ID, and a rental agreement. Other necessities included 2 passport photos and a declaration form. Comments from others emphasized the importance of having original documents and advised that if the wife cannot accompany the applicant, a signed letter from her may be needed for certain visa categories.

I just returned from the same trip. Marriage cert of your wife is the only original document you will need from her side. My wife did not come with me, however they did ask where she was. I explained that she was home looking after the kids (Phuket). In addition to the documents listed on the site, I took a short note from wife with a copy of her ID stating she was unable to take the trip with me due to family duties.

I would say over half the people were poorly prepared. Take signed copies of everything. Check the list of requirements. Sounds like the OP had a good day, my que time was around 4 hours.

we were 10th in the queue at opening time & he seemed to fly through the people but like you said it seemed all had the relevant information with them.

I have read many times that "original copies" are required. Can someone please explain what this is ?

@Marc ********
that is different again. That's "originals AND signed copies".

if you want to be pedantic it is πŸ‘πŸΌ

@Guy **********
they want to see the original marriage certificate ESPECIALLY if it's from thailand <- that rose bordered one because it has an embossed stamp on it.. πŸ™‚ AND they want a copy of it signed by you and your thai wife
Guy ***********
@T**
, sorry to be so pedantic but, considering the plethora of times you have commented that "it's a visa extension, not a visa" I thought you would be avid that there is no such thing as an "original copy"! πŸ˜ƒ
Tod *********
@Guy **********
it means you make a copy of your wifes thai i/d and her thai house book listing and have her sign the copies in BLUE ink AND she signs the copies of the marriage documents too πŸ™‚
Guy ***********
So signed copies are what is meant. Thanks Tod πŸ‘

it's an oxymoron. It's either an original or a copy. Can't be both. I was wondering the same thing in regards to the wife's ID considering her presence isn't required, which makes having her original ID a bit hard.

@Wylie ******
easy with the statement "the wife's presence isn't required" they started asking people where their thai wife was about a month ago at that consulate when applying for a year long multi entry Non-O

yes they asked her if she was my wife & told her this was going to be more often of an occurrence going forward.

You needed original or copies of the wife's passport/ID? You say original copies which is a bit of an oxymoron. It can be one or the other, but not both.

I thought the wife doesn't even need to be present, which makes having her original ID a bit hard. I plan on doing the same next week and unfortunately the wife will not be able to come with me.

First I saw mention of the rental agreement as a requirement too.

@Wylie ******
Signed copies of her thai i/d and house book listing is all they require

BUT if you're wanting to get that year-long, multi entry Non-O you either take your wife OR have her write a letter address to that consulate to issue you the visa, because we have many confirmed reports recently that they are telling people without their wife (and without that letter) they can only get a single entry

@Tod ********
thanks. I do already have copies of everything with her signature as well as a hand written letter from her. I also have the condo contract that is in her name so already has her signature. Hopefully its not required to have my name on it or her to sign a copy of the contract that already has her signature on it. I do have a TM30 that matches the address on the contract.

You applied at the Consulate not at Thai Immigration. But good luck

Thanx for the update, (y)

That 2 day processing includes the day you apply for the visa so really you get the passport back the next business day in the afternoon.

did you apply for the year long, multi-entry Non-O visa for 5000baht ?

If so was your wife with you?
