Key advised documents include the marriage certificate, children’s birth certificates, passport copies, and house papers. And at this time I believe we've covered the bases as far as what the O/P needs to do to get a visa from the thai consulate in Savannakhet based on marriage.

Good Luck (y)

If you haven't booked a hotel, we stayed at Avalon 2, there is also Avalon 1 around the corner. Clean rooms with pool and air con for 600 baht, breakfast extra and about 5-10 mins on tuk tuk to consulate.

Already booked flight so i am still going for this option but i have been Looking again at the OA option, please clarify what they mean by income certificate for the past 6 months. I have income from a family trust fund of £1500, with another 3,000 each July and 3,000 each December from my Father. Would a copy of the trust fund and a letter from my Father be ok or do i need to also ask for something from my UK bank. Also as i have lived in Thailand for many years do i visit a hospital here for my medical cert or in the UK. Thank you for your time and help.

Yes but its also a fall back plan if for whatever reason i cannot get the O Multi entry next week, as we are already booked for our UK holiday in August.

if you're getting a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa from savannakhet you won't need to worry about the requirements for an O-A visa for at least the next 15 months.

I'd say look at the requirements closer to when you need the visa.

And for OA i am meaning for a future date from the UK.

Wife's ID card, signed by her

It's all pretty harmless mate and dare I say they quite "like" us as we're getting a marriage visa, something different from all the tour groups. We had originals and copies of what Tod mentioned: marriage certificate, blue book, wife ID card and my passport with photo and Laos visa stamp - think that's all. Bloke across the road charges you 100 baht to fill out the form, I did it myself. You'll be fine!

hows about Ho Chi Minn for a multiple these days?
Ivan ************
Ho Chi Minh is super quiet, I was there at the weekend and I was the only person in the consulate submitting. Took all of 3 minutes. Great city for a visit too.

good luck,

My wife and I were there recently, arrived at Mukdahan on Monday, stayed at a local hotel.

Up early Tuesday morning and drove to friendship bridge. Parked at parking area near border and paid over 200 baht for overnight parking. Went to border crossing office for foreigners, filled out a form and paid a fee. Got a bus ticket and proceeded to Savannakhet Thai Consulate. On Laos side various kinds of transport is available and we went to restaurant opposite the consulate and waited till 9. o’clock for office to open. Soon as people lined up we joined them and handed in relevant paperwork and received a voucher to return next day.

Got a hotel close by, stayed the night and returned Wednesday about 1.pm to line up between 2-4. Presented voucher and everything returned with the yearly Non o based on marriage.

Headed back to border crossing completed TM 6, got stamped and hopped back on bus.

Next day reported to local immigration as had to be done within 24 hours. Appears that tuk tuk and taxis generally charge 100 baht per person for transport to Thai Consulate.

Hope this assists as what we did was mostly based on advice from Tod Daniels.

Be aware that if it’s a wet day protective clothing and plastic folders will help as you will find yourself waiting in an outdoors area.

Flights already booked, 3 nights but return flight is before visa collection time, so i have to apply Mon, unless they do a same day paid service ?
Nick *******
@Lester *******
we did bang on the same! Tuesday is a non-visa run day, best if the OP can get there on a Tuesday rather than a Monday
John ********
get the people across the road from the Consulate to do your paperwork..quite cheap and they know what you need..maybe check your address is correct on form

Just to add to Tod's comprehensive list. All things copied relating to your wife need to be signed by her. And yes Monday is busy, as you get there Sunday, arrive at consulate before 7.30, opens at 9.30am. And as you are staying Wednesday not rush and queue Tues 1pm, wait until everyone has got theirs and pick up before 4pm. And get form before you queue print at the hotel or somewhere on the Sunday or pick up the shop opposite early. Form needs to be 1 sheet though printed front and back (duplex).
John *******
Go early, big queues lately!
Tod *********
@John ******
It got crazy because so many foreigners are too clueless to make an online appointment for the booking system in Vientiane. :O There's even a thriving bus system now that will lug the stupid ones who show up at vientiane without an appointment booked all the way down to Savannakhet so they can apply there.
John *******
I was there 2 weeks ago and waited from 9:30-2pm to make my application. Maybe 300 people. I've been using this consulate for 10 years and never seen anything like it.
Tod *********
CORRECTION there usually are big queues on the days the visa run companies show up, but on the days they're not there, there aren't 30 people in the queue all day :O

Great, thanks for the help today and yesterday.
Tod *********
Just so you know. Mondays are MAD HOUSE days there because it's the day the visa run companies from Bangkok and Pattaya show up there with their customers..

Seeing as you're already going to be there on Sunday get to the consulate EARLY or you're gonna be at the end of the line believe me

:O It was about 30 THB the last time I was there

500bht i believe
Tod *********
get it when you're there, the form is free, or there's a guy across the street that will fill it out for you for not that much..
Tod *********
You do NOT need anything from the kids (seeing as you can't get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa because you have kids) nor do you need anything other than your thai wife's house book listing as far as house condo papers
Tod *********
Let's go over what you need to get a year-long multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai

you need the original rose border marriage certificate (they want to see it)

You need copies of

the front&back of the marriage certificate

the front&back of your thai wife's i/d card

her thai house book listing

the data page of your passport

the lao visa and entry stamp

A filled out application with two passport sized photos on it and 5000baht
Sergey *********
@David *******
multi-entry means crossing the border every 90 days.
David ********
@Tod ********
can you then do 90 day reporting in thailand at local immigration or do es one have to leave country to laos every 90 days?
Tod *********
okay, take a deep breath.

half of what you have listed you don't need

there is NO advantage giving them too much crap
