I'm in Thailand on a non-immigrant o type Visa. We intend to apply for a marriage visa. My wife is thai we married in the U.S. We went to Kasikorn Bank to open an account. I had a printed copy of my evisa, my digital arrival card, my passport and our rental agreement. We also had with us a copy of our us marriage license that had been certified by the state the state department and the Thai Embassy in the United States.

Kasikorn Bank refuse to allow me to open up a bank account. I don't understand what's going on has anybody else had this experience with Kasikorn Bank?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, currently in Thailand on a non-immigrant O visa, encountered difficulties while attempting to open a bank account at Kasikorn Bank with the necessary documents, including a certified marriage license. Community responses indicate that branch-specific rules may apply, and documentation such as a residence certificate, registration of marriage with local authorities, and possibly a longer-term visa may be required to successfully open an account.

Most of my friends who are long term residents that are married are on retirement visas rather than marriage visas. Way less paperwork and conditions.

I suspect your rental agreement isn't sufficient. Did the landlord fill out a TM30 form online and forward it to immigration? You'll receive proof of this there. I arrived on October 16th as a single Belgian citizen with a non-O retirement visa. On October 17th, I was able to open a bank account at Kasikornbank without any problems, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Did they not tell you what additional documents they require and/or did you not ask?

If this is an American marriage license, it will need to be translated to Thai first. Then registered at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then submitted to the Amphur for the Kor Ror 22. Can't open a bank account until all of that gets completed once here.

when the Non-O is based on marriage, they often want to see the marriage certificate.

They have wanted this in both branches I have accounts in.

@Marianne *******
that may be the case for you but I didnt have to when I opened my acct out we all know bank branches do what they want. I opened a second acct recently and they used my tm 47 in my passport. She said it already proved where I was registered but most banks are not that smart to even think outside the box. I do as little as can with thai banks. I am not going to fall victim as others have

Once again, welcome to Thailand. 🇹🇭👏

Did you have a residence certificate from immigration?

Kasikorn Bank didn't turn you down. That specific branch of Kasikorn Bank turned you down. Each bank branch manager sets the requirements for their branch. If one branch won't help you, try a different one.
