What documentation do I need to provide regarding my temporary residence registration (NA17) for my DTV application in Vietnam?

I applied for DTV at HCMC on 29th August and finally received an update today.

In regard to providing the request of temporary residence registration (NA17), should this be from the current accommodation or all?

As I booked a hotel for the first 2 weeks and moved to an Airbnb today (had expected to fly out today!)

Thanks
Answer summary
The user applied for a DTV visa in Vietnam and sought clarification on whether the temporary residence registration (NA17) should come from their current accommodation or all places they have stayed. Comments from other expats suggested that the application requires documentation for all stays to show legal residence. There were discussions about the requirements for E-visas, the implications of new rules for applications, the importance of proof of registration with police, and the differences between temporary registration in Vietnam versus permanent residence. Users shared experiences and suggested obtaining the necessary documents from both hotels and Airbnb hosts.

I received very similar email from HCMC yesterday also.

I stayed at an apartment for two months and they didn’t even know what Na17 was.

Also they ask for 6 months bank statements now showing the 500k. Which unfortunately

It won’t show

Most non-O visas have always required evidence of legal longer-term address in the country of application, although requirements are becoming more strict, it appears

What I think they want is evidence to suggest you have legally resided long-term in the county where application is being considered.

For example: in Australia, you must produce license/ proof of address as a citizen or your VEVO details, which shows your visa status (ie longer term) and not just a few weeks tourist.

don't think an airbnb is going to cut it pal 🤣. Did you not know the rules have changed and you have to apply in your home country or permanent resident country?

Getting a NA17 might be difficult

I live in VN, every foreigner here has to be registered with the police for every night of their stay, no matter where they're staying. That's what the NA17 is. It's not a big deal. If you've stayed at a hotel or Airbnd, ask them both for a print out of your registration. They file it online, it's simple. It should cover your entire time in VN, as TH is asking you to show you've followed the law and have been registered in every accomodation while in VN. Some Airbnbs may be doing it illegally to avoid paying taxes on their rentals, so you should confirm with the host before you stay there that they will register you and that they will provide you with the registration print out.

PrettyStrawberry0410 looks a lot to provide. Just received my child’s dependent DTV. I didn’t submit my work related docs, my DTV was enough

but "all" NA17 forms? Or "all" invoices could be read differently?

My partner just got exactly the same response from HCMC and we were planning to just use "all invoices" and the most recent NA17 form

Jai King No, I believe you'll need the bills from all your accomodations PLUS proof that you were registered at that accomodation every night of your stay in the country, since that's VN law. It's not hard, it's done online. If you're in a hotel the hotel will print it (NA17) out for you, for the days you've stayed with them. If staying in an Airbnb your host is required by law to register you and can print it out for you. If you're not staying in a hotel I would confirm with the Airbnb or wherever you're staying that they will indeed register you, because even some landlords here in VN will rent you an apartment but won't register you because they're not registered landlords and don't want to pay tax on their rental income. Happens all the time. The landlord/Airbnb host is responsible for registering all guests, you won't be punished, but you'll still be without your NA17 for your Thailand application.

It’s pretty clear they need proof of temporary or permanent residence. Do you have it?

Greg Eger that's the new template. He applied before that rule change. The NA17 they are asking him for is equivalent of Thailand's TM30, it's a temporary stay registration filed for tourist visitors.

Bob D'Andrea NA17 is like Thailand's TM30, it's a temporary stay registration filed by hotels for tourists. It's not permanent residence.

Bob D'Andrea ignore the template white text, the actual document requirements they are requesting are in red

Do you actually hold a permanent residence in Vietnam? Simply being there temporarily with "current location" is not sufficient for this application anymore.

Jan Kenneth Nesland The documents they've asked for are not for permanent residence, they're only asking for proof of where they have stayed and documentation that they've properly registered with police for each night of their stay in VN, as per the law. I've lived in VN and none of what they're asking for is proof of permanent residence.

Also, VN doesn't really do Permanent Residence except in exceptional circumstances. 'Vietnam grants permanent residence only under limited statutory categories, including individuals with meritorious service, close family ties to Vietnamese citizens, and certain foreign experts or scientists, subject to strict legal conditions.' People here get TRCs, temporary resident cards if they're working here etc. Even if you marry a VN citizen you only get a 5 year VEC (visa exemption certificate, that is voided the minute you get divorced), which is also not permanent residence.

Jennifer Foster Ok, then it’s mostly for VN citizens when the new requirements take affect.

given he applied prior to the new rules coming into effect he should be fine. The templates they use have been updated but note they don't ask for proof of permanent residence

Fair point. If he applied before the new rules took effect, he should probably be fine.
