This is how a building collapses upon itself. The vertical supports gave way in the top of building. Praying for survivors and anyone that was inside the building.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent building collapse in Thailand has raised concerns about construction safety and structural integrity. Commenters discuss the potential causes, including poor workmanship and the building not being finished, which may have compromised its stability. The event has led to fears about the safety of other buildings in the area, particularly given Bangkok's geological risks.
A building not yet finished has no structural strength untill they get get the roof on to tie it all in so I'm not surprised it fell over

If you play vid at .25 and watch closely it appears that the foundational supports gave out initially (around 6.5s in). Bangkok, being built on high water content clay and sediments (2000m down until bedrock!) is at extreme risk for damage (via liquefaction) from earthquakes. My mind is blown as to how much shaking occurred in BKK from an epicentre that was ~1000km away. If I was living in a high rise condo I'd be sh*tting bricks now. Assume the price of these condos will quickly drop (for a while, until everyone forgets) and the price of suburban sprawl houses/townhouses will spike.
From my understanding this style of building the strength of the building comes in the core elevator shafts. With shear walls to resist lateral movements. I don't know perhaps just bad timing in the building phase as the building didn't have it's full design integrity yet.
, if you watch many of the videos of this collapse it actually looks as if the base of the lift shaft/stair wells failed first,,, something happened down low to initiate the collapse... lots of homework to be done on this structure I believe

Also a brick building with like everywhere in Thailand, no skilled workers in Thailand.
Thai buildings ‘are made’ out bricks. Ignorance is not bliss but experience is experience. The majority of Thai construction workers (99%) learned there trade from YouTube, same with computer, appliance, plumbing, electrical…..repair
yes concrete bricks but brick sized, of course not real bricks because that would be too expensive & Thais are cheap, they don’t even upgrade anything old and broken. Lot of hotels still use Dot-Matrix Printers. And yes they run rebar through them, doesn’t make it a good build, better quality in Tijuana. So talk with a brain rather than than that leftist American hater bs. Also you might consider visiting Thailand at least once & guessing you visit the land, not the prostitute bars as that’s your (lack of) intellect.
it's steel rebar shuttering and concrete not brick of any sort i am staying in bangkok and have watched them from my balcony. I'm not American,i think you are fucking twat that is being disrespectful to Thai people and haven't ever picked up a tool let alone build anything. So why dont you go crawl back under the rancid rock you came from.
