TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses whether to stay in or go out in Bangkok, particularly in light of recent earthquake concerns. While some comments suggest enjoying nightlife at places like Soi Cowboy and Nana, others raise safety issues and recommend staying in wide open spaces or avoiding high rises. Transportation disruptions are also a concern, with reports of the BTS and MRT being closed. The conversation reflects a mix of caution and the desire for a typical night out.
Not a Visa, or retirement question but the lowly educated tourist. Luckily no “tourist” where I live in the entire province & nearly 6 hours drive in any direction.
Get drunk and go back to my 14fl condo....pretty much a usual night for me

What to Do in an Earthquake
If You Are Indoors:
1. Stay inside – Do not run outside unless absolutely necessary, as the building may collapse.
2. Find a safe place – Take cover under a sturdy table or against a load-bearing wall. Stay away from windows, mirrors, and heavy objects that could fall.
3. Protect your head and neck – If no cover is available, crouch down and use your arms to shield your head.
4. Do not use elevators – If you are on an upper floor, stay there until the shaking stops.
5. If you are in bed at night, stay in bed and use a pillow to protect your head.
If You Are Outdoors:
1. Stay away from buildings, trees, power lines, and bridges.
2. Move to an open area where nothing can fall on you.
If You Are in a Car:
1. Stop in a safe place away from bridges, tunnels, and power lines.
2. Stay in the car until the shaking stops.
After the Earthquake:
1. Check for injuries – If you are hurt, avoid unnecessary movement and seek help.
2. Be aware of aftershocks (smaller tremors that may follow).
3. Inspect your building – If there is severe damage or a gas leak smell, evacuate immediately.
4. Do not use open flames or electrical switches if you suspect a gas leak.
5. Stay updated with official news via radio, internet, or social media.
If you are near the coast and feel a strong earthquake, move to higher ground immediately, as a tsunami may follow.

There's very little safety inside bangkok if a huge quake were too happen. Your choice most likely won't matter. We can't control. Maybe a big open space can help you, but I don't see many people sleeping outside for that.
Kinda hard to get organized that fast right after a major event like an earthquake. looks like everything is getting back and running again. i am sure 7-11 had water
saw some news that BTS/MRT is closed until tomorrow until they can assess structural damage. So staff might have issues traveling for work. With that said, staying in, when shops decide to be open isnt going to help anyone. Traffic might be a b*tch tho.

Don't worry be happy.Nana or cowboy still welcome you.
uhh wouldn’t it be better to be out on ground level than on an elevated floor? What’s the difference tonight vs. Another night? And why do you assume he wants to go to those areas? Maybe he just wants to have a few pints.
I live in taiwan (I can guarantee you I know about quakes, a year ago we got hit with a 7.2 and the epicenter was 120km away) and there are always aftershocks that can hit within 24yrs. Buildings should be all inspected to make sure their structure isn't going to fail. We all know how thai works so I wouldn't trust their buildings especially if u get in a crowded area. Anyways, do whatever u want but then stop asking for advice on fb
…I don’t recall asking for advice. I was simply saying that it’s better to be on street level than at a high floor. If the dude wants to have a few pints, he’s probably better off going to a pub than being on even the 2nd floor..:
