TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around an expat's experience of coordinating a building project in Thailand by managing payments and overseeing construction stages from abroad. Key points include the importance of initial soil compaction and fencing, involving builder communication, and being cautious of the challenges that arise when not being physically present to oversee the work. Other members shared insights on ownership difficulty, joining local building groups, the necessity of voicing concerns, and managing expectations about the project's progress. The conversation emphasizes careful financial planning and learning throughout the building process.

Yes just do stage 1 roll land and fencing property can sort (I hope)from England

So..the build begins in November and you arrive in February? By the time you arrive there is nothing to oversee on the build unless the builder abandoned the job part way in. Likely you will be disappointed because you can’t oversee a Thailand build from thousands of miles away. That was my experience.

so his wife owns it. So any unfortunate problems he loses it. But hopefully that will never happen.

I am sure you know that Foreigners can not OWN Thai land, unless it is via a company structure which is costly exercise.

His life, he is aware of the situation. I wish him well, hard not to be a cynic when we know of others that have wandered this path and the consequences that arise more often than not.

safest bet, hopefully get good neighbours.

I am a wanderer, prefer the ability to change my outlook and experiences, especially if you get unlucky and some noisey people in the next unit or above you etc.

Best of luck. 🤞🏾
