This was at the Thai consulate in Vientiane, Laos at 10.30 this morning (while yours truly walked out with his number)...at least 1000 applicants turned up but it was well organised by the consulate staff and everyone was well behaved (even Russian visa applicants). The cool morning helped.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A post describes a busy morning at the Thai consulate in Vientiane, Laos, where over 1000 applicants were present, but the process was well-organized. Commenters discussed the efficiency of the consulate, their experiences with visa applications, and concerns about recent trends in visa approvals, particularly for tourist visas.

thanks for letting us know it was a busy day at the Thai Consulate. As we can not see in the future how busy is will be in the next days or weeks, let's just close this topic.

Did they all get processed that day? I need to go for a work visa in a couple weeks and hope it won't take too long!

They opened the gates an hour earlier (just after 7.30, so this scene is 3 hours after it opened..I don't know if all these people had their applications accepted or not, but I would guess that they would have all been accepted and the gates shut at 11 to let no more applicants in. All of this was because the consulate was closed last Thursday and Friday...don't worry, Vientiane has improved a lot...if you come midweek it shouldn't be a problem..if you come on a Monday, come in an hour before the gates open and it shouldn't take too long..I was here 3 months ago, I did that, I got there about 7.45, the gates opened at 8.30 and I was out around 9.30...bring a book and water.

Why can these people apply for a visa at home? I think the days for M Tourist visas are soon to be over.

@Benjamin *****
you better ask them let me know later.

You can only get multiple entry tourist visas from your home country (or from one in Aus, if I remember correctly).

As for people getting a tourist visa, how do you know those people are getting tourist visas, and not Non-B or ED?

What does "M Tourist Visa" mean?

Yes i try the same 11-12 year ago

That's usual for a Monday.

I always went on Wednesday or Friday and never saw more than 100 people in queue.
Álvaro **********
Yes, on Monday and Thursday there are loads of people because of the agencies. I usually go by around 9am and the queue is less than 15 or 25 minutes in total. Some day went near the end, near 11am, and there were even less people.

Have you seen a more than usual amount of unapproved visas? They seem to be a bit hard lately.

There were at least a couple of notices posted up saying that they are looking out for repeat tourist visa applications and irregularities. This is my third this year at this consulate so I'm a bit concerned.

Yep, Has always looked like that every time I have been there !

I have been there 8-10 times...this was at 10.30 when you normally wouldn't see that queue going up to the gate and u-turning back to the application area....got there at about 7.20 and the queue was already 200-250 metres long....it did help they opened up early about 7.45...tomorrow is another matter...I am not looking forward to it because around 1.00 pm it gets warm...this morning it was cool, very agreeable weather.
