TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on how to obtain a long-term stay visa in Thailand, specifically considering a retirement visa, while being over 50 years of age and having a few criminal records from when they were younger. Commentary suggests that applying for a single-entry Non-O visa doesn't typically require a criminal record check, allowing the user to extend their stay based on their age in Thailand without issues related to past criminal activity.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

Not for nothing -- "the criminal records check" only requires you have a piece of paper from anywhere government official sounding saying that you have not recent criminal activity. In my home country those things only go back 10 years and is relevant for the region the search is done.

Jordan Harris I did not say that the OP is bad... try a little humor this morning? ;-)
Jordan ********
just because someone did somethin when they were young doesnt make them bad
Bim *******
No I got it. X

@Bim ******
Sorry that you missed the humor in my post while referring to the OP's admitted naughty past.
Bim *******
I am sure that only applied to overstayers. Bad guys are OK if they have money and the correct visa haha. My visa extention requires an interpol check every year.

Getting a single entry Non-O based on being over 50 in your home country will not require a criminal records check, then in the last 30 days of that, apply for an extension of stay blessed on being over 50 (retirement) in Thailand, and that too does not require a records check.

Thanks
@Lloyd *******
Much appreciated
Lloyd ********
Yes, in am, collect next pm
Dean *******
Thanks very much
@Lloyd *******
Do have to stay overnight in savannekhet

Many thanks

Just to clarify, a yellow book does not necessarily mean your own home, plenty of people with yellow books who do not own their home.

Dean Weeks , over 50 with 800k in the bank, dependant child 500k in the bank. Over 50 , 65k a month. Married, 40k a month income. Or a multi entry visa based on marriage from Savannekhet, no financials needed, but have to leave every 90 days. There are a few more, more expensive options too. Lastly, over 50, a combination of income and banked money to a value of 800k.

@Dean ******
. I thought that too (with YHB)
Dean *******
Sorry I also own my home (yellow book)
Dean *******
Thanks Tod

It was That Phanom in Issan

Tod quick question if you don't mind I'm married with 3 kids is there an alternative way of me living in Thailand other than the 400,000 baht in the bank

Many thanks

@De**
, what immigration office was it.? It's definitely two months :/
Lloyd ********
Many offices do ask for 3 months, but their own rules say 2. TIT :-)

Hi Todd

I renewed my marriage visa in February for the 3rd time and it had to be in for 3mths mate
David ****************
@Frank *************
. If that were the case it would say 'either/or' and it doesn't.
@Tod ********
is right.

@Fr***
, unfortunately you CANNOT use a combination of banked money and the income letter for extensions based on marriage.

That is ONLY available for extensions based on retirement.

@David ***************
Sorry David the law says : (6) In the case of marriage to a Thai woman, the alien husband must earn an average annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for one year.

Or means you can combine. IMO
Bim *******
Thanks
@David ***************
didnt know that. Good info.
David ****************
@Bim ******
. You can only use a combination on an extension based on retirement, NOT marriage.
Tod *********
@De**
, the banked money requirements for extensions based on marriage are 2 months every single time. Only retirement is 60 days the first year and 3 months every year after that.
Lloyd ********
The first application for an extension is 2 months and then subsequent ones are 3 months.
Dean *******
Bill Smith thought it was 3 months is for my marriage visa
Bim *******
You only need that when you apply for your extention and the money must have been in the account for 2 months. You can use a combination of income and money in the bank.
David ****************
But does require money in a thai sole bank account &/or evidence from your Embassy proving you have an income (800,000 or 65,000b p.m.)
