TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a 48-year-old Swedish citizen, inquires about legal options to stay in Thailand given their current visa situation, specifically focusing on how many tourist visas they can obtain and if there are alternatives for longer stays prior to turning 50. Discussion in the thread suggests options such as applying for an education visa by enrolling in a language school, as well as the potential of the Elite visa. Others note the importance of managing the number of tourist visas to avoid issues and recommend applying from different consulates to maximize stay.

Start to study Thai and get education visa, that's what I plan to do until I'm 50.

I have been here for a long time, so I always keep in mind that the visa rules can change. But as I said, so far no problem with my education visa.

I don't have a 3 years visa, but I was told by immigration office that I will be able to use education visa for 3 years.
Robert *******
Would be nice to know how you got a 3 years ED visa with only 4 hours a week study.
Haldis **********
I don't think I need other plans, so far it works fine.
Haldis **********
I know people that is here on ED visa and have been 6-7 years. And the plan I showed for my visa doesn't say that I study 8 hours a week, I only study 4 hours a week.

I just copied the explanation from
@T**
in another topic: Tod DanielsGroup Admin If you're talking about an ED visa for studying at a private school in Bangkok you can get only 15 months of total study.

You enroll, get paperwork go to a thai consulate and get a 90 day ED visa. Then you get 60 day extensions at the immigration office until you hit the 8th month.

Then you go back out of the country and get another single entry ED visa and you can get 60 day extensions on that until you hit the 7th month. Then you're done and need to study another language.

The days of 4 hours a week on an ED visa are long gone. If you enroll for a year program you must attend 10 hours a week and if you enroll for 6 months you must do 8 hours a week.

This all happened because of a few visa mill schools selling ED visas rather than making sure people were studying.

I will be able to stay on education visa until a month before I turn 50 so I will have to take a vacation or something.
Haldis **********
It is, but you can get it for 3 years.

No longer visa options in this region. You can get in Sweden the Multi Entry Tourist Visa, with good use you get 9 months of stay out of it. In this region it will only be the 60 day Tourist Visa plus Extension of Stay with 30 days, change of Thai Consulate or Embassy is advised to avoid the warning stamp to much tourist visa using this Consulate/Embassy. Alternative for longer time is described by
