Apologies if this has already been questioned on this group. But I find that each cases are different so I’m hoping someone can give me some clarification here.

I’m helping my stepdad from the UK to get Non-O visa to join my mum in Udonthani,Thailand.

He is travelling to Thailand on the 28th March with Tourist TR 60 days visa (family visit)

I’m wondering what would be the best approach in terms of extension to stay in Thailand without having to leave the country before he meets the criteria to apply for Non- O spouse Visa. As we’re aware that the 400K THB needs to be in his Thai Account for 2 months before he can apply.

So, we would like to know what other options he has in order to extend his stay before he can apply for Non -O spouse Visa?

Thank you in advance 🙏🏽

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on how to transition from a Tourist TR visa to a Non-O spouse Visa for their stepdad traveling to Thailand. They need guidance on how to extend his stay and apply for the Non-O visa while ensuring that the required 400K THB is in a Thai bank account for the necessary period before applying for the annual extension.

The process goes like this

1 - enter on a tourist visa get stamped in for 60 days

2 - open a bank account transfer in the 400K baht

3 - apply for the in country 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage at the immigration office for 2000baht

(it will go under review for 14 days so he needs to have a minimum of 15 days left on his stamp when he applies)

4 - go back and get the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamp inked in

5 - WAIT until the funds have been in the account for 2 months and there are less than 30 days remaining on the 90 day Non-O visa stamp

5 - go apply for the year extension based on marriage to a thai for 1900baht <- (this is when the funds need to be seasoned 2 months)

6 - get a 30 day under consideration stamp

7 - get an in home visit from immigrations making sure it's a real marriage

8 - when that 30 day under consideration stamp runs out go back to the immigration office and get the year extension inked in

Those are the exact steps needed to go from a tourist visa to first a 90 day Non-O and then a year extension based on marriage to a thai

that they didn't allow you to do what ever it is I outlined is sadly on you. The process works exactly as I outlined it.

I would have said I wanted to file a written appeal (which gets sent to bangkok for review) and stuck to my guns on what ever they decided to change in the process

I know it’s such a lengthy process and I found there’s no sufficient guideline from the Thai government website either 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thanks again and I’ll pass on the information to my stepdad ☺️

There is no requirement that the 400K baht be in a thai bank account in his name only for any length of time when he applies for the initial 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai.

Only that on the day he applies it's in his account here. The 2 months seasoning applies when he goes to apply for the yearly extension when the 90 day Non-O runs down

who told you that the funds needed to be in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the 90 day Non-O visa?

Hi Tod, I’ve been looked up on

and as per screenshot, it said Visa extension in the case of being a member of a Thai national. The husband has to have 400K in a bank account in Thailand for the past 2 months . So I assume this refers to a Thai bank account that my stepdad has to hold the funds.

you are confusing two completely different things

FIRST you get the 90 day Non-O VISA based on marriage <- that does NOT require the funds be seasoned in the bank account in his name to do

SECOND you do what you are looking at and apply for the YEAR EXTENSION based on marriage <- that DOES require that the funds be seasoned for 2 months before he applies fir it

BUT

IF you put the funds in, apply for the 90 day Non-O visa, by the time that 90 day stamp runs down to 30 days or less and you can apply for the year extension the funds WILL be seasoned in the bank for the 2 months 😉 🙂
