Managed to get Thai bank account today , after going to bank then immigration to get address certified, back to bank then phone shop for sim in my name, was taking forever at bank then my girlfriend mentioned I would need insurance and then suddenly he sped up and issued bank book and debit card when he thought commission was coming his way but I won’t buy that at bank

Lots of hoops to jump through and 4 hours later I have bank accounts Happy days

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares their experience of opening a Thai bank account, detailing the steps involved such as obtaining address certification from immigration, and acquiring a SIM card. They highlight the lengthy process, mention the role of insurance in speeding up the account issuance, and confirm that visa checks were part of the process. Comments from others inquire about the specific bank used, visa requirements, and details concerning potential insurance needs.

you go to the Thai cellphone provider obviously, and get proof.

I bet there would be no problem opening a bank account for those who pay for an elite visa.
Robert **********
@Will *******
of course not, with money its never an issue. Problem is its kind of xpensive getting the elite just for a bank account for most of us

I’m with Krungthai bank, in a very small town in Nongbualamphu, the first time I went and asked for bank statements and paper work for immigration there was 3or 4 bank staff all huddled together, they got it right and immigration where happy with what I gave them

@Tom ******
Hi Tom I will be doing the same shortly so thanks for sharing. But do you not need the SIM first before going to the bank? (as well as the certificate of residence?)
Robin *******
@John ********
John take everything and copies of everything wife’s blue book passport telephone contract with your number and address on it, I didn’t need certificate of residence because we have our own house, if you have yellow house book and pink I D card take that

@Robin ******
they didnt even ask me for one. The banker saw my tm47 in passport and used it. Serves the same purpose she said. That's how all banks should work. Just common sense. KBANK RULES

@John ********
yes mate, you need both, also need a copy of your lease and the owners ID card information. Same as in pic below 👇🏾

@Von **********
I didn’t have a lease as I’m renting an Airbnb but did have my passport, approved visa, Certificate of Residence, and Thai telephone number. Opened one account with Kasikorn bank and one with Krungsri. In and out of both banks 45-60 minutes.
