A few queries please, regarding 'retirement' (over 50) visa & trailing spouse (under 50). (1) When I apply for my retirement visa during the 90 day visa period, does it start from the day it is approved, or from the date the 90 day one expires; (2) my Czech wife (I'm Kiwi) intend to go to Penang to apply for her trailing spouse visa, when I get my retirement one - (a) what documentation will we need to provide to the Thai embassy there?; (b) will our Singaporean marriage certificate original/copies be OK, or will it need to be attested/notarised?; (c) how long should we plan to stay in Penang for visa processing/how long does it usually take?; (d) are appointments required or just walk-in?; (e) confirmation that there is no financial requirement for trailing spouse visa, as there is for retirement one; & (f) any additional info that would help us thru the process? Many thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The retirement visa for applicants over 50 starts its validity from the date it is approved, extending the existing 90-day visa. For the trailing spouse visa under the age of 50, documentation requirements at the Thai embassy include checking the embassy's website for specifics, as guidance can vary. The Singaporean marriage certificate is typically acceptable without notarization, and the processing time in Penang may vary, so planning for a longer stay is recommended. Appointments may not be necessary, but it's best to confirm with the embassy. Notably, there is no financial requirement for the trailing spouse visa, unlike the retirement visa.

if you're trying to get this visa from Penang it usually means you're in the south of thailand (as those are the typical people who slog down there ๐Ÿ™‚ ) you might post in a few groups related to the south of thailand asking if anyone has gotten trailing spouse Non-O's in Penang since the borders re-opened, OR ask for a contact IN Penang to see what someone who "pushes paper" helps people get visas from that consulate says.

Your year extension gets added to the end of the 90 day stamp you get when you get the Non-O inked in

You need to wait until you get the year extension before trying to get the Non-O visa based on trailing spouse at ANY consulate nearby.

NOTE; there are almost zero posts about people who have used consulates to get different visa types (because most people were milking covid extensions ๐Ÿ˜ฎ )

Look on the website of the thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur to see if they list the requirements for getting a Non-O based on marriage to someone on a long stay visa/extension (Trailing Spouse), ๐Ÿ˜ฎ sorry I just went there and only got sent around in circles when looking for the requirements for Non-O foreign spouse visa

There is no proof of funds for a trailing spouse Non-O

ALL the rest of the questions can only be answered by someone who got a trailing spouse Non-O FROM Penang. So I'm not even gonna try to tell you what those answers might be

Hmm, it seems the questions you're asking about the process IN penang (how long it takes, how long you stay, etc) leads me to believe you didn't go to the website and read this page;
