Hi all, just searched the group regarding the 6 month METV. Wife and I (Canadians) are in Thailand on that visa and I want to make sure I understand the ‘border bounce’ requirements.

First

As I understand it, prior to the 60 day stamp date we received on entry, we need to leave the country and return to receive another 60 day stamp correct? Not really needing to do the 30 day extension so we can leave that alone.

Second

From what I saw on posts, we just need to cross the border into a neighbouring country for like 5 minutes, is that correct?

Question

We will likely be in the Krabi area when our first 60 days expires, what do y’all suggest for a border crossing location?

Thank you all, we’re loving Thailand so far.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The procedure for extending your stay in Thailand on a 6 month METV involves leaving the country before your initial 60-day stamp expires and returning for a new stamp. You don't need to apply for a 30-day extension. A quick border crossing to a neighboring country, like Malaysia from Krabi, suffices. Participants confirmed that you only need to cross immigration into the other country for a few minutes to re-enter Thailand.

1. That is correct. You need to leave every 60 days with your visa. You can tell the date you need to leave by looking at your entry stamp, and seeing the date that is written in the "Admitted Until" date.

2. You need to cross out of Thailand, and cross immigration into the other country. There is no time period when you can return.

3. For the border, I'll let others chime in, I never been down south before.

Correct, you got 60 days of stay and as long as the visa is valid, you can cross the border, turn around and come back and get a new 60 day stay. From Krabi the best option is the border with Malaysia.
