Hello all! Can someone inform me how the multi entry tourist visas work now? I know before you could just do a border run at 90 days, and come back for 90. With Covid now and no land crossings, do you have to fly out and then fly back in? I’m not sure which visa I would like to get next as I would like to continue my stay in Thailand for holiday this year. I’m currently on visa exempt with 60 day Covid extension in bangkok. Any information is appreciated!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The multi-entry tourist visa (METV) allows for stays of 60 days per entry, extendable by 30 days, and is valid for 6 months. Current travel rules necessitate flying out of Thailand and back in due to closed land borders. Some travelers are using same-day trips to nearby countries like Cambodia or Singapore to facilitate re-entry. It's important to have the proper documentation and meet entry requirements for both Thailand and the country of departure.

A bit of off-topic info. Sound like you are still in Thailand. So you know you can apply for METV only in your home country or where you have legal residency.

Ah interesting I thought you could apply for METV in Cambodia at the embassy - is that incorrect? Thank you

, unfortunately, incorrect. Before Covid, Cambodia required you to have residency in Cambodia. Currently, I don't know if they have even re-started selling METV.

You only have to be stamped into another country to be able to return. Someone posted recently about doing a same day out and back to Cambodia and using the same Covid test they took in Thailand for entry to Cambodia to return to Thailand. Singapore is also an option now and potentially Malaysia soon. Just book everything and apply for your Thailand Pass before you leave and you can be back the same day.

The METV still works the same, it is valid for 6 months and on each entry you get 60 days of stay, which can be extended once with another 30 days based on tourism. Then you leave Thailand and come back for another period.

Land borders are still closed, so you leave and come back using air traffic and meet all the entry requirements of both countries due to Covid pandemic.
