Hi everyone,

This may be a bit of a unorthodox one but looking for anyone who has had a similar experience to advice me. I’ve been living in Thailand for 7 years. I currently have a Non-B and working permit but I want to move to working fully online and therefore transition to a DTV visa. 

What I’m concerned about is the new rules since September 1st where you have to show residency in a country that is not Thailand. Currently my residency is Thailand so I’m wondering what proof is needed and what they will accept for this? I obviously will go back to Ireland to apply and I still have an Irish drivers license and bank account and an address where bank statements are sent but I don’t live there. Is this going to be a hard no or is there a work around? Or am I misunderstanding the new rules?

If you “live” in Thailand so you’re not in residence in Ireland .so you would be abusing a DTV visa .. and increasing scrutiny on genuine applicants 👏👏👏

everyone who wants a DTV wants to live in Thailand. I currently work here legally and have lived here legally for years but I want to change transition to online work and remain legal so therefore I need to change to a DTV visa. So you’re tying to say that because I live here already i can’t change my career and therefore change to the necessity visa? And I will do so from Ireland. What a ridiculous take 🙄

I know but unfortunately it doesn’t allow me to live in the part of Thailand that I want to live in.

Your documentation in Ireland will be fine.

There are no questions on the application that say ‘come on now, where d’you really live?’ You’ll be complying with the rules regarding where you’re applying from, and staying there till you get a decision so you’ll be fine.
