Hello everyone, I would like information on the process of changing from DTV to work visa, please assist. I got a new job as an ESL teacher and would like to get a work permit but my school also doesn't know how to go about it.
Answer summary
To convert a DTV to a work visa in Thailand as an ESL teacher, you will need to cancel your DTV, which can either be done at the local immigration office or through the embassy that issued it. Your employer must apply for a work permit (WP) on your behalf, and once approved, you can take the WP approval letter and required documents to apply for a Non-B visa (B visa). After receiving the B visa, return to immigration to extend the B visa to match the length of your work permit. It's also advisable to consult your school's staff for assistance with the process and paperwork.

It's theoretically possible to convert a DTV to another visa type at your local immigration office inside Thailand, but you need to satisfy all of the requirements of the visa you want to convert to. So if the school you want to work at is able to provide the extensive paperwork required for the Non-B visa you should be good, most schools want you to apply outside Thailand as the paperwork requirements are considerably less in which case you will need to ask the consulate that issued the DTV to cancel it first
Cancel DTV. Employer applies for WP. Ministry of Labour approves WP in principle. You take this letter and employer documentation plus yours and a0ply for B. When B issued you get WP. Then back to Imigration for B extension to match B length
