Hi all.

I’m due to go back to the U.K. in a few weeks and need to start setting up. Does anyone know a FB group about returning from an Amber country?

Cheers.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation centers around the requirements for UK citizens returning from Amber countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Key points include mandatory pre-departure PCR testing, the necessity of filling a passenger locator form, and the quarantine rules which involve a 10-day home quarantine with additional PCR tests scheduled for days 2 and 8 after arrival. Participants also discuss the difficulties they faced with testing providers and the reliability of results, emphasizing the importance of selecting a good PCR test provider.

states, PCR test before leave, then sign up for 2 tests to be done day 2 and day 8 self quarantine, the hardest part was choosing the PCR provider there a lot choose from on government website, medicines online I think one we used they got tests to home on-time and we got results back on time..and yes they do check that your quarantining, by calling every day or even sending police around on occasion..

That’s the spot where I’m in now. Choosing the right PCR provider! They can call and visit all they want, I’m happy to sit and work. Just need to have the thing shoved up my nose a million times

You have to complete a pcr test 72 hours prior to arrival and complete a passenger locator form. You must also pay for 2 pcr tests on arrival taken on day 2 and day 8.

It also directs you to covid test providers and cost which must be paid for before arrival.

These forms are definitely checked on arrival and you quarantine at home for 10 days

You should report the company to Track and Trace.

its so hit and miss with tests and results too. My son's day 2 test kit paid in advance of flight arrived ON day 2. Posted back same day. Results didnt come back till day 6. Day 8 results never arrived back at all. Waste of hundreds of ££s.

this is the thing I’m worried about most. I’ve planning on doing the test to release so all 3 tests, but I’ve already had bad experiences with U.K. testing

you can actually drive to the private test centre. So that might be more reliable.

oh seriously? That’s so annoying! I’ll be based in Cambridge so I don’t know about testing centres. Will have a look around.

If I were to go in person isnt that an issue given I’m meant to be Quarantining….?

hopefully you'll find an efficient test company. The one my son used sent the test kits but the testing lab was in Cambridgeshire. Then the returned test was held up by Royal mail Plymouth for 48 hours. Utter nonsense.

apparently its not an issue. Just shows how stupid this is. You can travel home on public transport, use trains, buses, taxis. Then quarantine!

yes, I know, it's a worry. Test to release cant be done till day 2 results come back. My sons didn't come back till day 6. So day 5 didn't come back till day 8. . and day 8 test never came back at all.

Check the gov.Uk website. It has full details of what the rules and procedures are. You need a RT-PCR test result prior to flying and you need to pay upfront for the mandatory tests, but you can opt to choose for a local clinic to do them rather than postal results, which might give you a couple of days less of quarantine. Other members of household do not need to quarantine unless you test positive or have symptoms.

You'll probably need to fill in a form to say where you're staying. 10 days quarantine at your address. Anyone in the house has to quarantine too. Covid negative test before flying. Another after arrival on day 2 and 8. Paid for in advance with private company in uk.
