Stress level running high. Heading to Heathrow Airport London for the Emirates flight to Bangkok. All papers in order I hope! Won't relax untill I'm in the Quarantine hotel in Bangkok. 7,1/2 months to get to this point. Not easy and not cheap. All going well I should be home exactly 8 months after leaving to go to work for 28 days. What a year its been.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat prepares for traveling from London to Bangkok via Emirates, experiencing high stress levels due to the lengthy and costly process of returning home after several months abroad. The community provides supportive comments, sharing their own experiences, tips for quarantine, and encouraging words as the traveler heads to the airport. There are discussions around quarantine hotels, flight availability, and the challenges faced by expats during the pandemic.

Only 1200 visas per year, 2000 baht PER visa (does that include extension or are the two extensions inclusive?), if your wife owns the residence that you stay at, is that acceptable? Still lots of questions that need to be answered before I consider applying for this visa. I am still planning to wait until next year since their may be a vaccine. Things will change again once a vaccine is available. Should be no quaratine and expensive two week stays in government dictated hotels. Will the Thai government accept a vaccine since they are usually not 100% effective?

they said its a trial. Baby steps. I have already been through the process and came back. It is difficult and should be better organised for applying and getting the ASQ hotels. Once you arrive though it is well organised and thourogh.

Having recently lost my father to covid I understand and respect there choice to keep covid out of the country to protect the elderly whom as you know they treat with greater respect than the west.

People go on about road accidents that affects mainly the young and stupid.

I am still going to wait until next year before trying to get back to Thailand. It seems like things change daily which is par for the course. I would also think immigration offices will interpret this new visa differently. I will wait a little longer.

After reading so many stories of how long people have to wait to get back to there family and homes and the cost makes me think very hard about the best way forward, I have a gf of 6 years and will marry next year but the government should be ashamed of it's self in the way it has treated foreigners who spend so much in there country 😔 but they think of themselves not the people

It is scarier in your head. Once I got to Thailand they were very friendly and comforting. I’m sure I had the same things going on in my head that you do, but I was overthinking it. If you have your papers in order, you’re golden. One thing I did do to ease my mind was I made three copies of everything. Carries one with me, one in my carry on and one in my checked bag. That maybe over doing it, but I was freaking out the most about losing my paperwork. The Quarantine was relaxing. You do a self checking via and app, twice a day, reporting your over all health and your temperature. They provide a thermometer in your room. If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to PM me.
