What would be needed to register my marriage to a Thai woman in Thailand? We were married in America almost 4 years ago. We live in Ohio but she still owns a house in Nakhon Sawon. I know there is proof of marriage and other basic information but is there anything else I should know about? Thanks for the advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To register your marriage to a Thai woman in Thailand after getting married in the USA, you will need to follow these steps: 1. Ensure your marriage certificate is certified by the appropriate government authority in the U.S. 2. Have the marriage certificate legalized at the Royal Thai Embassy in the U.S. 3. Translate the marriage certificate into Thai. 4. Submit the certified and translated documents to your local Amphur (district office) in Thailand. It is also advisable to translate your passport and verify details by contacting the Thai Embassy in your area.

2 Friends of my, could also do this IN Thailand. 1 Dutch and 1 Austrian. Really don't know exact what papers they needed but original legalized and translated to Thai and again legalized that one for sure.

Hi

I'm in the same situation.

This is the reply I received from the Thai Embassy, London. I imagine it would be similar for you in the USA.

If your just registering your marriage, not changing surnames the process is much easier.

Your marriage certificate has to be certified first by your government department to say its genuine, and then legalised (stamped) by Royal Thai Embassy in the US.

When stamped by the Thai Embassy you then need to translate your marriage certificate into Thai as well before submitting all the documents at the (Amphur) local district office in Thailand.

"It has to have the Thai Embassy stamp or the Local district office will not accept it. I would also get your passport translated as well.

To be sure email the Thai Embassy in the US they got back to me quickly.๐Ÿ‘Œ

Do you know if the pre-nup that was made in America also has to be sent to the embassy or that's not relative for Thailand.

I don't think so Ken. That's a personal thing between you an your wife. As long as it's not mentioned on your marriage certificate they don't need to know.๐Ÿ‘Œ

you are correct Dave and yes you need your passport translated into Thai as well. The district office will issue a marriage certificate in Thai and a Kor ror 2 document. These can used to obtain a visa based on marriage to stay in Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ
