USA Advice Needed

I’ll be seeking a Non-OA visa after arrival. Can an American advise on where to seek the criminal report required, how in-depth it must be, or type of report?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American seeking a Non-OA visa in Thailand should note that such a visa must be obtained overseas, not within Thailand. For a retirement visa, which is the Non-O visa for those over 50, a police report is not necessary for application in Thailand. Many users suggest obtaining the criminal report from a local sheriff's office in the U.S., where you can get your fingerprints taken and they will send the report to you.

If you're getting the retirement visa after you arrive in Thailand, it's called a Non-Immigration O visa (based on being over 50 years of age), NOT an OA (which is obtained in your own country). You do NOT need a police report for the O visa obtained in Thailand

Criminal report? Went to local sheriffs office! They did fingerprints and sent somewhere!

Got report in mail!

Depends on what state you are in. In NC, had to get fingerprinted at Sheriff, then send to NCSBI. In FL, can order from FLDLE. But as above, OA visa available in the US, not Thailand. O visa, background check not required. (as I understand it)

I gather, but sticking with the question with the understanding that I may have to return…

Do you think a DUI will disqualify me?

I have no idea on the DUI issue, but i'd guess no. We're looking at the O/OA visas too. Was thinking on OA, as can get almost 2 years - then we figured we'd come back for a visit, and reapply. But - I've posted some questions about the O visa. Hope to get some info.

Excellent! I wonder if a DUI a decade ago would be a disqualifier?

When I applied for a 90 day visa a local police report would not be accepted. I had to get a report from the State Police.

Thanks, good to know. But I think what Gene was saying is to go to the local office and have them send for a state report. That’s what I’ll seek anyway…

You can only get the OA overseas not in Thailand.

Are you thinking of Non O retirement ?

I was told it’s best to arrive on a tourist visa and then right away open a bank account and do the other needful things, then apply for the updated visa once in compliance.

Yes, that's for a non O visa. You don't need the police report for that for retirement.

You can do that for a Non O yes. But dont think you need police records at least not for Non O marriage.
