Hello- I am new to this group, so excuse me for asking a question that has certainly been covered before.

Can I apply for a long-term retirement visa while I am here in Thailand, or do I need to apply in my home country, (USA)?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the process of applying for a long-term retirement visa (Non-O visa) while in Thailand, specifically asking if the application needs to be done in their home country, the USA. The responses suggest that it is possible to apply for the Non-O visa at the immigration office in Chiang Mai, provided the applicant has at least 21 days remaining on their current visa. The commenters recommend making an appointment, bringing required documentation as outlined in the handout provided by the immigration office, and stipulate that the process typically takes 21 days.

Go to the chiang mai immigration office on the second floor of the Promenada Mall and make an appointment so you can go in and apply for a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type O visa (the O means other) based on being over 50 (retirement). They will give you a hand out that lists the documentation you need to provide to get the 90 day Non-O visa issued inside the country. Chiang Mai takes 21 days to issue that visa (so you need at least that much time on your current visa exempt or tourist visa entry to do it)

Some members can contribute with the list of Chang Mai. The online list is a general list and each Immigration Office has their own specific things. Best thing is the hand out they give you, most of the time these hand outs are in English and Thai.

Is there a list of required documents available online that I can look at before going to the immigration office?

Thanks, In Chang Mai you need at least 21 days left on your current stay. You can apply for the Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years at the Immigration Office in Promenada in Chang Mai. Best is to visit them, make an appointment for this Visa and take the hand out with all their requirements, make sure you meet them all, meet them at the appointment date, apply, get back 21 days later and you get this visa with 90 days admitted to stay inside your passport. 60 Days later you can apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay with the same documents.

What kind of Visa or Visa Exempt Entry are you now in Thailand, how many days of stay left and what is your location?
