Hi team and group members, if my following question is already answered, please direct to the thread and discussion. My partner and I are NZ citizens (passport holders) living in Australia. We intend to apply for a 6 month METV via the Royal Thai Sydney Consulate. There are 2 requirements on the visa application that I seek clarity please.
1. Confirmed accommodation under your name for the duration of your stay in Thailand
2. A copy of airline ticket indicating the date of arrival to and departure from Thailand
Regarding requirement 1, we have booked an accommodation for 2 months and advised that if we like it there, we would extend our stay. Is this acceptable?
Requirement 2, do we need to book a return ticket at near the end of 6 months so i.e. book ticket for 1 May 2020 and return 1 Oct 2020?
This is our very first visa application. Thanks in advance, Les.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a New Zealand citizen residing in Australia, seeks clarification on the accommodation and flight ticket requirements for applying for a 6-month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) at the Royal Thai Consulate in Sydney. They have booked accommodation for two months and wonder if that's sufficient. Additionally, they ask if they need to book a return flight near the end of the 6-month period. Various community responses provide insights on the maximum stay allowed, the importance of booking flexibility, and suggestions to confirm details directly with the consulate.
I know the Thai Embassy in Canberra accepts expected travel itineraries, don’t need actual bookings, best bet is to check with the consulate directly as to what they will accept.
You do know you can’t stay 6 months without leaving Thailand, max 60 days + 30 days extension on each entry before enter before date expires!
Usually travel requirements can be met with proofs of the first trip to Thailand - proof of onward travel (getting out of Thailand within the first 60 days which you will be stamped in, don't have to be really return) and accommodation until then (or first xx weeks). You'll have to exit Thailand within 60 days or 90 days maximum with extension anyway.
The visa validation is the last day of entry, not leaving so if you want to book your return trip, it could be 60 days after 1 Nov in your example (6 months after 1 May is 1 Nov, not 1 Oct btw) or 90 days after with extension.
You had better check with the consulate you are applying for detail of requirements.
If you use Agoda (a hotel booking site). Book your accommodation for the duration But use the pay at reception provision. If you don't want to stay at that particular accommodation for the whole six months you can always cancel it 3 days before at no cost to you. Beaware to have separate booking as once you acctivate that accommodation booking you may have to pay for it all.
Thats ok, we have a villa booked and confirmed for 2 months with possible extension if we like the place. I wasn't 100% sure if we need to provide document stating we have a place for the full 6 months?
I dont think we will extend our 6 month METV at this stage. I guess I want to know if we need to provide confirmation for accommodation for the full 6 months and have return tickets to cover the full 6 months?
