Hey everyone. I'm planning to apply for dtv from Los Angeles for muay thai classes. Do I need to sign up for 6 months? Or is one month enough to get approved? The school is saying 1 month has been approved specifically from Los Angeles but I'm wondering if anyone has personal experience.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the application process for a DTV visa for Muay Thai training from Los Angeles. While one commenter notes that a school has approved 1-month training for the visa, others highlight that 6 months is generally the recommended duration to avoid rejection. Personal experiences vary, with some gyms insisting on a minimum of 9 months to minimize the risk of application denial. Additionally, alternative visa options, such as the METV (multiple entry tourist visa), are mentioned as feasible for longer stays.
A MT gym i recently contacted wouldn't let anyone apply for anything under 9 months because they didn't want their clients to risk getting rejected with just 6 months
Most people are now applying for 6 months or more. Some individuals were offered other visa types after presenting their 1-month training. Keep in mind that this is a 5-year visa, and extensions require ongoing activity, which essentially defines the requirements for this visa. Yes, you can leave and re-enter, but there is no guarantee this will work for the full 5 years.
FYI...the Washington DC Thai Consulate just DENIED a DTV Visa for Muay Thai training as the time submitted for the training was ONLY for 6 months.
Instead of the DTV visa, they offered to issue a METV multiple entry tourist visa. Which will allow the applicant enough time to complete the Muay Thai training
As a METV visa, with planning, can get you up to 9 months Stay in Thailand with a couple of border bounces.
